Bittersweet news, KB fam!

As much as we hate to say it, we are officially bidding farewell to our wonderful Izzy. She started with us as a barista in 2022, stepped up as a lead in 2024, and has been our incredible Cafe Manager since last May. When she first joined the team, Kool Beans didn’t even have a full-time manager position. Izzy has grown right alongside our business. Her confidence, leadership, and unmatched work ethic have truly shined and we wouldn’t be where we are today without her. We are so sad to see her go, but we couldn’t be more excited for her as she heads back home to Minnesota for her next big adventure!

As we pass the torch, please give a massive hello and congratulations to Josie! Josie has been absolutely crushing it as a barista and lead since 2024, and we are thrilled to have her stepping into the Cafe Manager role. She officially took the reins on Monday!

To give Izzy a proper send-off, we’re offering half off “The Izzy” tomorrow and Thursday! Created by the queen herself, it’s a delicious iced brown sugar latte topped with maple cinnamon cold foam. She will behind the bar for her final shifts tomorrow afternoon and Thursday morning. Be sure to stop by, grab her signature drink, and wish her well!

Every time staff leave, it’s hard to remember there was once a point where we didn’t know them. And when they’re getting ready to move on, it’s even harder to imagine ever feeling normal without them here.

Our May & December 2026 graduates have become such a meaningful part of our business and the feeling of Kool Beans itself. Some are staying for a bit, some are leaving, and some we’ll thankfully get back for one more semester this fall.

This group could teach a master class on hospitality and I’d walk away learning something. They brought joy, laughter, care, community, and occasionally a little song & dance into our café every single day. They embraced something much bigger than simply making drinks or taking orders. They made people feel seen, welcomed, remembered, and cared for. They made Kool Beans feel special.

Customer service is what you do. Hospitality is how you make people feel. And this crew understood the difference better than most.

Thank you for sharing part of your journey with us. We’re incredibly proud of you all!! 🎓🤍☕️

6,234 moments of intentionality. 🌍

On Earth Day last year, we launched our Small Change, Big Impact initiative. We know that in a busy world, choosing sustainability often means choosing an inconvenience. It’s easier to grab a disposable cup and go. It’s harder to remember the reusable mug, to wash it, and to carry it with you.

But our community showed up anyway. Oftentimes every day with their own reusable cups.

Since last Earth Day, we have issued 6,234 reusable cup discounts. To be honest, looking at that number makes us pretty emotional. That represents 6,234 conscious choices made by our customers.

It’s proof that intentionality can win, even when it’s inconvenient. Because of you, we’ve reduced our to-go cup usage by 23% in just one year.

When a community shows up together, really kool things happen.

We’ve been reflecting on what it truly means to be part of a community right now. We believe caring for our neighbors isn’t political, it’s human. When people in our broader community are facing harm, staying silent is still a choice, and it’s not one that aligns with our values.

We know not everyone can do everything, but everyone can do something. Here’s a few ways you can…

Caffeinate and donate. This Friday, ten percent of all in-café sales will be donated to Community Aid Network MN, a grassroots, volunteer-led organization out of Bethel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They are helping families stay safe, warm, and fed during a time of increased stress and uncertainty in their community.

Consume the truth. We both read to Tangle. Tangle is a nonpartisan news organization built around the idea that understanding different perspectives makes us better informed and better neighbors. They cover major political stories by sharing viewpoints from across the political spectrum, clearly separating facts from opinion, so readers can engage with the news more thoughtfully and less reactively.
