Food safety has always been our highest priority.
Many of you have seen the recent news regarding the cyclosporiasis outbreak. While the investigation continues, early findings point to lettuce and salad greens as a possible source (although no specific grower, supplier, or product has been identified).
We are NOT aware of any illnesses associated with The Ivy Table Cafe, but we believe it's important to be proactive whenever food safety issues arise.
One of the key recommendation right now from Michigan's Health Department is to wash produce thoroughly and to avoid pre-bagged lettuce, and we want to assure our guests that that's exactly what we are doing in the cafe.
We are not purchasing pre-cut lettuce. Instead, we wash and trim our greens in-house daily, just as we do with all of the fresh produce we serve.
For those who want eat well, but are choosing to avoid salads right now, we've got you covered. This week we are featuring two delicious vegetable based soups- Chipotle Corn Chowder and Mushroom Leek. We've also added an amazing Apple Orchard Potato Salad packed with potato, sweet potato, apple, celery, and fresh herbs, AND, we've added a new chia pudding bowl topped with granola and fruit.
You may also notice a few temporary changes to our menu. For example, we've removed raspberries from our fruit bowls as an added precaution. Although they have not been linked to this outbreak, raspberries have been associated with previous outbreaks and are difficult to thoroughly clean because of their delicate shape and texture.
We appreciate your understanding as we take this extra precautionary step to help protect our guests.
