To our family, friends, customers and Bridgewater Community.
It’s with a heavy heart that we are announcing our retirement. We are planning to close January 15, 2022.
As some may already know, the Town of Bridgewater offered to purchase our building to put a pharmacy and medical office in it.
We feel this would benefit our town, so we agreed to sell.
I came to this country in 1980 from Naples, Italy. I worked for my brother in law’s pizza place in Waynesboro until I opened my own.
In 1984, my wife and I and our 4-month-old son was driving through Bridgewater and saw our future building, empty and for rent, and knew this is where we wanted to open our restaurant, raise our family and make this town our home. I was 25 years old with a wife and baby but wanted the chance to own my own business.
Sergio’s Pizza was opened July 1984, my brother, Roberto and sister, Letizia worked with me. Over the years, my wife and 5 children have also worked at the shop, at one time or other. Even my son and daughter-in-law met when she was working at the shop.
Although, it hasn’t been easy, owning and running a restaurant, it is hard work with long hours, nights and weekends with little time off, I appreciate the opportunity to live the American dream and am proud I became an American citizen in 2000.
Our family would like to thank you for supporting us for the past 37 ½ years. We hope that when you think of Sergio’s Pizza, you will smile and remember all the good times we have shared over the years. The food, the laughs, the music and the fun karaoke nights. So many fond memories that we will always cherish.
I would like to thank my sister, Letizia, for working with me from the beginning. I wouldn’t have been able to make it without her. I appreciate her loyalty to our small family business. I would also like to thank my wife and children for always supporting me.
I also want to thank all of my previous employees that have worked with us to make Sergio’s Pizza successful, some have become good friends.
Finally, I want to thank all of our customers. Without you, we wouldn’t have been here all these years. We have met so many wonderful people throughout the years and value the friends we have made. We will miss you. It’s been a pleasure serving you!
What’s next for me? Now that my children are grown, with my youngest being 17 years old, I feel that it’s the right time to retire. I want to spend time with my wife, children and grandchildren and make as many new memories as possible with them. Plus, Letizia will now have the opportunity to do the things that she has always wanted to do.
We still have a few weeks before we retire, just thanks again to every one of you!
