My Dear Friends,
It’s with a full heart, deep gratitude and profound humility that I announce today that Brewster Guapo’s will NOT be reopening for the 2022 season. I thank you all for the opportunity to realize my life-long dream of owning my own restaurants in my hometown of Brewster for the past 17 years. It’s been an honor to serve the community I’ve called home since I was 12 years old, a dream come true and I’m forever grateful.
I understand more than anyone that I couldn’t have accomplished much without the love, support and kindness of so many people along the way. There’s so many people to thank I couldn’t possibly fit them all in one letter but it’s important for me to thank Michael Spano who funded the first Guapo’s at the Brewster General Store, without Spano there’d be no “Spano” Burrito or Guapo’s – you’re a great friend and we love you.
In my early days at Cape Cod Five there was a very special lady there who made me want to do better and be better, she’s retired now but she’ll always be a wonderful part of my story, Thank you Ellen Covell for believing in me, I miss you. I’ve been lucky enough to develop another great relationship at Cape Cod Five with Ellen’s successor, Bill Madden. Thank you Bill, your kindness, patience and expertise won’t soon be forgotten and Cape Cod Five has been an amazing partner in our journey, thank you all.
From Pat & Nitzi at Chillingsworth for their years of instilling a strong work ethic in me to Vern and Missy at the Fish House for giving me my first bartending job to “The Commander”, “The Mayor”, “Big Chief”, our “Silent Leader” and “Captain Jim” (Where’s Gerry?) all the way to “Minnow”, “Capt. Lenny” and “Brownah” I thank you for all the memories, laughs and friendship. Thank you to Rob and Sarah who’ve been right beside me through my process, you’re awesome.
My dear friends Constance & Nate, My Big Sister Elizabeth and Chef Guy I love you all very much, thank you. Nana Jen, Poppa Jay, Dee, my brother Todd our incredible neighbors Robert and Lauren and the rest of our extended family – thank you all, we couldn’t have done any of it without your support. We’ve met a lot of special people along the way and your impact on my journey has felt like one miracle after another. I realize how truly lucky we’ve been to have so many special people in our lives and feel deeply humbled by how blessed we’ve been.
I’d like to thank all of the town departments for the guidance, assistance and patience as I grew into my role. I appreciate your wisdom, expertise and the much-needed hand slaps you delivered when I asked for it. I’m especially grateful for the men and women of the Brewster Police Department and the Brewster Fire & Rescue teams for all their hard work, some of us wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them and they certainly don’t have an easy job, these professionals deserve recognition and our kindness – thank you all.
Most of all, I need to thank my beautiful daughter Madeline and my number one favorite son Sammy for showing me the meaning of unconditional love, I’m very proud of you both and I love you.
We’ll wind down our time here through the summer as we chart our next course so I hope to see
you all around. This is an exciting time for my family and we’re ready for what’s next. When we leave we’ll
be carrying a huge part of Brewster with us no matter where we go.
I wish you all love, peace, and from the bottom of my heart I thank you, it’s been an honor to serve you.
