It’s time once again to play-
“The top ten things I bet you didn’t know about The Tilted Windmill”:
1. Six years. Yes, we’ve been here serving our deliciousness for just over half a tenth of a century.
2. Our name was derived as an homage to what we chose to do in the immediate aftermath of surviving a fire, flood and freezing. It also comes from a direct literary reference from Miguel de Cervantes’ “Don Quixote.” The main character was always chasing/battling (or in his case, as a Knight, ‘tilting’) against Windmills he imagined were fearsome monsters. We not only battled our very real monsters but overcame them or ‘Tilted’ them in this case.
3. ‘The Rocinante’ sandwich (our take on what we call a “deconstructed blue cheese burger”), was named after Don Quixote’s horse.
We thought it was funny.
4. We roast our own Coffee. Nothing in house is ever more than two weeks out of our roaster. Single Origin coffee beans are selected for flavor notes, acidity and overall body. We stick with a medium roast to maximize the bean’s potential.
5. We smoke, prepare and cure our own bacon, cheeses and meats. Our bacon sells out quickly - so get in early, or come back again- It’s worth it. Trust us.
6. Our menu was inspired by visiting some of the finest New York deli restaurants and given our unique culinary tweaks you enjoy today. Other items we simply made up utilizing our over 40 years of culinary experience and professional training and of course… creativity…gasp!
7. We have well over 100 different loose leaf Teas from traditional to the unconventional blends we’ve concocted just because we could.
8. We have just as many combinations of coffee and tea (hot and cold) based drinks utilizing house made syrups, caramel and other drink ingredients we dreamed into existence. After all imagination shouldn’t be limited.
9. We will be changing our name soon, juggling administrative duties and responsibilities as we enter a new phase of our evolution from the madness of our origin story. But the spirit and quality of product will only get better.
10. We’re always hiring. Talent needs to be cultivated and refreshed. Specifically now looking for a barista and a sous chef. Come join us.
