The Arcane Texas Fact of the Day:

In 1963, the top-five best-selling beer brands in Texas were, in order: 1) Pearl 2) Falstaff 3) Lone Star 4) Jax 5) Schlitz

There were 1,117,498 barrels of Pearl sold that year. Each barrel holds 331 12-oz cans, meaning almost 370 million cans of Pearl were purchased. There were 10,159,000 Texans in 1963. So if you do the math (lessee ... divide by seven, carry the one, add that ... hmm) it means that each Texan consumed 36.3 cans of Pearl. Considering that some Texans were not legal and others don't like beer, 36.3 cans of Pearl per capita seems possible. Of course, I'm pretty sure that my former neighbor in Temple, Mr. Wallace, was responsible for about half of that. The man knew his Pearl Beer, yes indeed.
