Supporting hyper-local and local farmers, food producers, and makers. Nonprofit programs of the Kearsarge Food Hub.

11 West Main St, Bradford NH In the spring of 2015, the Kearsarge Food Hub (KFH) launched a pilot project, Sweet Beet Farm and Farm Stand, as an opportunity to learn how to grow and sell vegetables, and establish relationships within the local food network. Through this project and

complimentary outreach efforts, founders and a growing group of folks committed to nurturing relationships with farmers, makers, food pantries, schools, thought leaders, food system partners, community organizations, and friends to build bridges between neighbors and their local food source. Since that spring and to this day, these bridges continue to be carefully crafted with a combination of multidimensional education, innovative solutions for widening food access and deepening connections, environmentally and socially conscientious practices, and a shared love of the New Hampshire seasons and the community that grows from this place. With tremendous collaborative effort, KFH has blossomed into a full blown 501c3 nonprofit organization on a mission to reinvigorate the community within a restorative local food system through cultivating food sovereignty, growing engaged learners, and nurturing community. Sweet Beet graduated from a seasonal roadside farm stand to a triad of engines, the farm + market + café, that each feed the food hub ecosystem in their own way. Alongside Unless LLC, owners of the old Bradford Inn at 11 West Main Street and dedicated food hub supporters, the KFH crew has been helping to revive this previously abandoned building and co-creating a shared sense of place in the Kearsarge and surrounding area that is inviting to all neighbors. Sweet Beet Market lives here at 11 West Main and is open year-round, alongside a community-supported commercial kitchen and the soon to be Sweet Beet Café. The market and café gratefully share space with Evergreen Healing Arts with yoga and massage, Circular Blu with sustainable health care consulting and recycling programs, Entroprise with software building, and a community room with events and music soon to return. Sweet Beet Farm now lives at 48 West Road, nestled in the backwoods of Bradford, and the fields at the old farm stand downtown now host a newly formed Farmer Apprenticeship Program. Thanks for being a part of it!

It’s September, which means it’s Hunger Action Month and time for our annual Back to School Food Drive.

Our goal is to collect 1,000 grocery items to help keep our Community FREEdge stocked and make sure local kids and families have access to nourishing food when they need it. The FREEdge is open 24/7 at Sweet Beet Market, with no questions asked.

From September 1 through 30, shop the Food Drive in the Market. Buy 3 or more marked donation items and get 10% off your entire Market purchase.

Can’t make it in? You can donate online, including purchasing items by the case: www.bit.ly/SBMFoodDrive

Every item collected helps stock the FREEdge for our neighbors.

Help us reach 1,000+ items by September 30!

TODAY, August 30 from 11 AM–1 PM, come meet Jack Perez of Singing Pond Farm, taste some of his freshly grown organic veggies, and learn a little more about the person behind your food.

There’s a reason we care so much about introducing you to the people who grow and make your food.

One of our core aims at Kearsarge Food Hub is to build a local food system that is connected... where farmers are supported, people have access to good local food, and we know the people and places that nourish us.

Sweet Beet Market & Cafe gets to be a bridge in that relationship. Food from more than 250 local and regional farmers, fishers, and producers moves through our doors and into your kitchens... but we don’t want that connection to exist only on a shelf or a label.

That’s why we host Taste Local & Meet Your Farmer events. They make “support local farms” something real: meet the farmer, ask how your food was grown, taste something they harvested, and put their food directly into your hands... and mouths!

A resilient local food system is built on relationships... and we’re happy to help make those connections happen.

Despite the name, you’ll want a fork for this sundae!

- Sub tofu or tempeh for a vegetarian version

Come try one this weekend at Sweet Beet Café.

The Pad Thai Breakfast Sandwich is back for the weekend!

This one has made a few appearances on our seasonal menus over the years and has become a real customer favorite. It’s not on the current menu, so we thought we’d bring it back for a weekend visit.

Pad Thai Breakfast Sandwich (V) - Fried egg, spicy peanut sauce, carrot, radish and greens, scallions, all on a grilled brioche bun.

Add bacon or tempeh, and definitely consider the candied jalapeños.

Available this Saturday and Sunday while supplies last.

Cafe hours: Sat + Sun, 9 am to 2 pm

Too many zucchini? We know the feeling.

This is the moment when gardens are overflowing, farm harvests are coming in fast, and the produce section at Sweet Beet is about as abundant as it gets.

Tomatoes everywhere. More kale than you know what to do with. Zucchini that apparently doubled in size overnight.

So we put together something to help you make the most of it.

Our Sweet Beet Eats Garden Abundance Recipe Collection is full of some of our favorite ways to use what’s plentiful right now, from spicy tomato jam and tomato cobbler to ratatouille, summer squash casserole and kale chips. We also tucked in 11 tips for storing your bounty and making all this summer goodness last a little longer.

It’s free when you sign up for Sweet Beet News, our twice-weekly emails about what’s fresh and happening at the Market + Cafe.

Sign up and we’ll send the collection your way:

And then come see what’s piled high in the produce section this week.

One of our favorite days of the year is coming!

On Saturday, September 19, we’re gathering on the lawn at Sweet Beet for the 6th Annual Kearsarge Food Hub & Friends Community Fair.

Sweet Beet is a place where people come together all year long. You stop in for groceries, grab breakfast at the Cafe, run into someone you know, meet the people who grow and make your food, or sit down and stay for a while.

The Community Fair is a big celebration of all of that.

From 3 to 7pm, we’ll fill the lawn with local food, vendor tastings, live music, farm animals, face painting, Fairyland, art and activities, raffle prizes, and lots of ways to eat, play, learn, and spend time together.

You’ll meet some of the farmers and makers who help fill our shelves, along with local organizations doing good work throughout our region. There will be activities for kids, plenty of good food, and lots of space to pull up a chair or spread out a blanket and enjoy the afternoon.

Sweet Beet is part of the nonprofit Kearsarge Food Hub, and gatherings like this are a big part of why we’re here. We want to build a local food system where farmers are supported, good food is more accessible, and people feel connected to the food, land, and people around them.

And sometimes, building that kind of community looks like getting everyone together on the lawn and having a really good time.

Saturday, September 19, 3 to 7pm
Sweet Beet Market & Café
11 West Main Street, Bradford, NH

The Community Fair is completely free and open to everyone.

Bring the family, invite a friend or neighbor, grab a blanket or chair, and come spend the afternoon with us. We can’t wait to see the lawn full of people enjoying the folks who make our community so special.
