I like Germany
Göttingen is a university town in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is the capital of the district of Göttingen. The River Leine runs through the town. In 2011 the population was 116,052.
The origins of Göttingen lay in a village called Gutingi, first mentioned in a document in 953 AD. The city was founded northwest of this village, between 1150 and 1200 AD, and adopted its name. In medieval times the city was a member of the Hanseatic League and hence a wealthy town.
Today, Göttingen is famous for its old university (Georgia Augusta, or "Georg-August-Universität"), which was founded in 1734 (first classes in 1737) and became the most visited university of Europe. In 1837, seven professors protested against the absolute sovereignty of the kings of Hanover; they lost their offices, but became known as the "Göttingen Seven". Its alumni include some well-known historical figures: the Brothers Grimm, Heinrich Ewald, Wilhelm Eduard Weber and Georg Gervinus. Also, German Chancellors Otto von Bismarck and Gerhard Schröder attended law school at the Göttingen University. Karl Barth held his first professorship here. Some of the most famous mathematicians in history, Carl Friedrich Gauss, Bernhard Riemann and David Hilbert, were professors at Göttingen.
Like other university towns, Göttingen has developed its own quaint traditions. On the day they are awarded their doctorate degrees, students are drawn in handcarts from the Great Hall to the Gänseliesel-Fountain in front of the Old Town Hall. There they have to climb the fountain and kiss the statue of the Gänseliesel (Goose girl). This practice is actually forbidden, but the law is not enforced. She is considered the most kissed girl in the world.
Nearly untouched by Allied bombing in World War II, the inner city of Göttingen is now an attractive place to live with many shops, cafes and bars. For this reason, many university students live in the inner city and give Göttingen a youthful feel. In 2003, 45% of the inner city population was only between 18 and 30 years of age.
Commercially, Göttingen is noted for its production of optical and precision-engineered machinery, being the seat of the light microscopy division of Carl Zeiss, Inc., and a main site for Sartorius AG which specialises in bio-technology and measurement equipment — the region around Göttingen advertises itself as "Measurement Valley".
Göttingen is also the home to NextPharma GmbH one of Germany's largest pharmaceutical contract manufacturer's. The company undertakes pharmaceutical development, Clinical trial logistics and Microbiology services. NextPharma manufactures a large volume of pharmaceutical products, for the German and also for international markets such as the USA, Brazil and the rest of Europe.
Unemployment in Göttingen was 12.6% in 2003 and is now 7% (March 2014). The city's railway station to the west of the city centre is on Germany's main north-south railway.
Göttingen has two professional basketball teams; both the men's and women's teams play in the Basketball-Bundesliga. For the 2007-08 season, both teams will play in the 1st division.

I like Germany
Weihenstephan Abbey (Kloster Weihenstephan) was a Benedictine monastery in Weihenstephan, now part of the district of Freising, in Bavaria, Germany. Brauerei Weihenstephan, located at the monastery site since at least 1040, is said to be the world's oldest continuously operating brewery.
Saint Korbinian, whose arrival in Freising is dated at around 720, founded a church dedicated to Saint Stephen here. A dormitory for monks that originally adjoined the building disappears from records by the end of the eighth century. The monastery itself, dedicated at first to Saint Vitus, then later to Saints Stephen and Michael, was founded by Bishop Hitto von Freising between 811 and 835. From then until 1020 or 1021 it was a monastery of Augustinian canons before becoming a Benedictine abbey.
The abbey was dissolved in 1803 during the secularisation of Bavaria and its property sold off. In 1810 the abbey church, which had been made into a parish church, was demolished.
In 1803 the Forestry School of Munich was moved into the empty buildings; at the same time a model farm was established. A large part of the previous abbey economy, with buildings and stables as well as forests and fields, was transferred to the forestry school or the model farm. From 1804 agricultural science was taught here by Max Schönleutner.
As early as 1807 both schools were wound up, as many teachers and students had taken part in Napoleon's invasion of Russia, from which few had returned. In 1852 the agricultural school was re-established in Weihenstephan and in 1895 became an agricultural college, which formed the nucleus of the Technical University of Munich life sciences campus in Freising.
The Weihenstephan Brewery can trace its roots at the abbey to 768, as a document from that year refers to a hop garden in the area paying a tithe to the monastery. A brewery was licensed by the City of Freising in 1040, and that is the founding date claimed by the modern brewery. The brewery thus has a credible claim to being the oldest working brewery in the world. (Weltenburg Abbey, also in Bavaria, has had a brewery in operation since 1050, and also claims to be the oldest brewery in the world.) When the monastery and brewery were secularised in 1803, they became possessions of the State of Bavaria.
Since 1923, the brewery has been known as the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan (in German Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan), and is operated in conjunction with the Technical University of Munich as both a state-of-the-art production facility and a centre for learning.
The brewery produces a range of pale lagers and wheat beers including Weihenstephaner Weissbier, a 5.4% abv weissbier which is available in filtered (Kristall) and unfiltered (Hefe) versions. The strongest beers the brewery produces are Infinium (10.5% abv), Vitus (a 7.7% abv wheat beer) and Korbinian (a 7.4% abv strong lager or bock).

Our Story
The LUCKY FROG RESTAURANT
The German Lunch and Dinner spot is in the Publix-anchored shopping center at Cortez Road W. and is open Monday through Saturday. Since opening in September 2014 the Lucky Frog is part of Bradenton’s 10 Best Local Eats, under the 15 first Restaurant from 500 by Tripadvisor, voted three times as Finalist by Bradenton Heralds Peoples Choice and has 4.9 Stars from 5 on Facebook. They offer authentic German Meals, a good choice of vegetarian or gluten-free possibilities and everything is made from scratch by the owner, Master Chef Uwe from Bavaria.
The name comes from "The Lion and the Frog" retold by Brothers Grimm. The story is about a frog which encouraged a sad princess to slay a lion to see her prince brother again. On the end the frog is a princess and there is a big wedding with a lot of “German Food”.
On the menu, the dishes are named after the fairy tale. There's the Golden Palace, a Vienna-style Schnitzel with German potato salad, the Queens Heart, a Beef Meat, marinated in Red Wine and Vinegar with Red Cabbage and homemade Spaetzle, and the fresh made Potato Pancakes are the best in town.
Delicious desserts are the Baking Frog - scrambled german pancakes with powdered sugar and ice cream, the Sweet Kiss, a ice cream which looks like spaghetti, with homemade fruit sauce and the Queens Wish, a Apple Strudel with warm Vanilla Sauce.
Master Chef Uwe takes a great care with plating the food. "Your eye is eating first before your stomach. If it's appetizing already, then you really enjoy your meal."
