Warm, spiced, and soothing for dry, irritated coughs. 🌺🍯
This Sorrel Cough Syrup from community herbalist Rebecca Fils-Aimè () is inspired by sorrel, a Caribbean hibiscus-based drink traditionally brewed with warm spices, sugar, and sometimes ginger and rum.
Rebecca combines hibiscus with a delicious blend of warming spices to create a syrup that's expectorant, antispasmodic, and demulcent, making it especially soothing for irritated mucous membranes caused by dry, spastic coughs.
Here’s what goes into this beautiful herbal syrup:
🌺 Tart hibiscus calyxes
🫚 Fresh ginger
✨ Cinnamon, cloves, star anise, and allspice
🍊 Dried lemon or orange peel
🍯 Raw local honey
And it isn't just for coughs! Rebecca says this flavorful syrup also tastes wonderful added to sparkling water, especially during the summer. ☀️
