Congratulations to our Employee of the Quarter, Miles!
Miles has been working as a kavatender at The Root since April of 2022. Here’s what he has to say about his experience:
“I love working here because it is anything but normal. Unlike most places, you get to build meaningful relationships with every interaction. At a coffee shop or bar, everyone knows exactly what they want, they order, they pay, then leave. Not here! We get to be a guide for new patrons. We get to serve our regulars diligently. We get to know their friends, partners, children, and pets. We get to be a part of our customers lives in a way that you don’t see much of anywhere. It’s incredibly special. The same sentiment applies on an even deeper level in regard to my co-workers! I’ve been working here for a while and it has been an incredible thing to watch the staff here change but more importantly grow. Both in number and as individuals. The staff here is my family. It comes out in a lot of ways, much like a real family. Hugs, laughter, shared stories, taunts and arguments. But when push comes to shove, sometimes literally, we all care about each other in a way that exceeds just ‘co-worker.’ That is what I love most about working here: the people. They are more than just my friends, they are the people I choose to love.”
