I was working at the library in downtown Trondheim when cannons at Kristiansten Fortress saluted King Harald, who passed away this morning. Even those of us who would prefer a republic to a constitutional monarchy feel sad, because he was a unifying figure who spoke up for human rights in a world filled with hateful rhetoric and political divisiveness.

I did these a while ago. I’d love to fully learn the art of painting on glass with enamel paint and a brush, but most people do vinyl lettering for that perfectly printed look, since it saves a lot of time (but vinyl will always be vinyl, if you know what I mean, so I understand why some people would still prefer something hand painted). I was really way out of my comfort zone doing these windows, though. I’m quite confident painting regular boards and signs, I’ve been doing that for thirteen years now. I’ve also painted glass displays using markers, but painting on glass and aiming for perfect fonts was very time consuming, even though I chalked up outlines beforehand.
