Dear Customers, Fans, and Friends,
We’re quite sad to report that MIT has canceled our regular spot on campus, after being there serving you guys rain, snow or shine, for over 30 years straight.
The pandemic had devastated us in so many ways. Harvard announced major construction projects in Allston, resulting the loss of our kitchen lease of over 10 years during the pandemic. We did a massive search for a new commissary, going through over 100 locations, searching for a needle in the haystack that would meet our requirements, and we found it! But only to learn that MIT has a change in policy. The reason given was that MIT wanted to “prioritize campus vendors that have been struggling” in the post-pandemic environment. We’re quite shocked and surprised. We are the longest serving campus food vendor, and hardly anyone had struggled as hard as we did through the pandemic. And we’ve consistently been the most popular food option on campus.
20 jobs are at stake. The team is the most amazing food team in the city. An incredible mix of people from different cultures and backgrounds, working so well together. Immigrants, single mothers, recent college grads, inner city youths, veterans, even ivy leaguers, old and young, all very dedicated, working very hard, but happy and proud of our service. Many have been on the team for over 10 years! Very rare in the retail food industry!
You have known us over the years for our healthy, hot, delicious meals, served affordably and at incredible speed. Less known is all the ground-breaking work we do behind the scene to continually improve for our customers and to make conditions better for the staff. That’s why people work on this team for so long!
To everyone who have been writing and messaging us throughout the pandemic, inquiring about our return, thank you so much for your support. We are sorry about this news that we have just learned, after such a long journey through the pandemic.
Best regards,
Your Saté Grill Team
