We are aware of a complaint made by a patron regarding his service animal.

*** Management Update*****

We have spoken directly with the responding Boise Police Department officer and would like to clarify that no member of our staff was cited. At the request of a private citizen, an incident report was simply taken, which is standard procedure. As a locally owned small business, our priority has always been the safety and well-being of our patrons and staff. We appreciate the community’s understanding as we continue to handle this matter appropriately.

McCleary’s Pub takes the rights of individuals with disabilities and the use of legitimate service animals very seriously. We are committed to complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act and treating every guest with dignity and respect.

In this situation, the issue was never the patron’s disability, veteran status, or the presence of a service animal itself. Our employee addressed the fact that the dog was off leash and approaching other patrons, creating a safety concern. The guest was informed that he was welcome to remain in the establishment if the animal was removed or properly controlled, consistent with ADA guidelines regarding service animals that are not under the handler’s control.

Unfortunately, the interaction escalated when the employee was subjected to repeated verbal abuse and aggressive behavior. At that point, the decision to ask the patron to leave was based on his conduct toward staff—not because he is a veteran or because he uses a service animal.

We respect those who have served our country and strive to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all guests. Because this matter may involve legal proceedings, we will not be discussing additional details publicly.
