Southern Sugar started as just a small and fun idea that came after I attended Culinary School. In the beginning, I was just doing a small and simple cakes and cupcakes for friends and family members under the name “Haley Cakes”. After no time at all, it became a passion that I decided to run with and make into a 2nd full time job. After graduating college with a degree in Baking and Pastry, I wor
ked at a few different bakeries and cake shops and learned so much from them and also many trials and errors at home. Plus, the help of lots of YouTube tutorials. In December of 2017, I was asked to run a small table at an event my job was having and pass out my cupcakes. That’s when I knew that if I played my cards right, I could get business from people outside my family and friends. I rushed to find a new name that I connected with and felt confident telling people about. After many, MANY ideas, the name “Southern Sugar” came to me when I looked at my muddy truck while walking out of a cake supply shop. I immediately knew that was it. My “booth” at this event was not thought out. Little business cards made from Walmart, a naked table and a big smile, I handed out my cupcakes. It definitely took awhile for word to spread, but eventually, I started receiving orders from people I had met at the event. Then it turned into their family and friends contacting me. After that, I decided to make my Facebook and Instagram business pages and Southern Sugar took off from there. I went from having maybe 1-2 cakes per month to 1-2 cakes per weekend! December 2018, I was asked again to run a booth for the event. I was much more prepared that time around. Professionally made business cards, matching tablecloth, banner and pictures of my work. I looked like a professional! ;) So here I am today, very blessed to be where I’m at, but craving for more. I am very thankful for my family and friends for believing in me and also pushing me to believe in myself and my worth. I wouldn’t be here today without the wonderful people who tell their friends and family about me. So THANK YOU! Couldn’t do this without y’all! -Haley
