☕ NEW COFFEE OFFERINGS ☕

🇵🇪 Peru SWP Decaf - chocolate hazelnut, creamy marshmallow, and sweet red apple

People are saying they can't even tell this is decaf! The Swiss Water Process is a chemical free decaf process that uses carbon filters to remove the caffeine from the green beans. The delicious origin characteristics of the coffee are still present and you get a coffee you can drink at all times of the day.

This coffee was produced as an organic coffee.

🇬🇹 Guatemala Los Huipiles - chocolate malt, toasted pecan

A classic profile for Central America that brings out bold chocolate, nutty profile with a sweet malt finish.

🇪🇹 Ethiopia Guji Natural - blueberry donut, tropical fruit, lemonade mixed with a hibiscus aroma.

A natural-processed coffee that lends to the already recognizable fruity profile of an Ethiopian coffee.

If you want to have your coffee roasted and ready by Christmas, please order by December 15th. Current orders are taking about a week to get roasted and processed. Thanks for your patience as we roast your morning brew!

We also reached the end of the bags for PNG Simbai & Uganda Rwenzori last week, but new coffee will be arriving soon.

In the meantime, we still have Afternoon Blend, Colombia Huila, Brazil Cerrado, Kenya Kirinyaga, & Mexico Veracruz Decaf!

As we exit the Thanksgiving season and enter into the Christmas season, I am thankful & grateful for each of you who have supported me through this adventure.

Coffee has a multitude of pleasing aromas during roasting, grinding, brewing, and drinking that make it such an enjoyable beverage.

My prayer is that this coffee I roast can be an offering of a pleasing aroma both to you and to the Lord. Jesus was eventually the ultimate pleasing aroma because of His sacrifice for our sins. I'm thankful to have this beverage/product to remind us of how we should live our lives in sacrifice and in a pleasing aroma to others.

I always get excited for my green coffee delivery!

Here we have some restocks of 🇧🇷 Brazil Cerrado and 🇨🇴 Colombia Huila Supremo

Brazil is used as the base for Rod's Roast Espresso Blend as it supplies a lot of body and chocolatey nutty notes.

Colombia Huila Supremo was my first coffee offered and it continues to be the crowd favorite! No surprise there as it offers incredible flavor with sweet caramel and silky milk chocolate notes!

Here’s a little history of my coffee journey:

I first started drinking coffee my 2nd year of college and I would brew a pot of GV donut shop blend 2 hours early so the warmer would go off and I’d have drinkable coffee (burnt, but drinkable lol) I cringe thinking about that, but hey, the best way to brew is the way that tastes good for you, so no judgement!

Eventually I found an old espresso machine at a thrift store in 2019 for $19.99 and even though it was missing several key components, I quickly started learning more about coffee and enjoying morning lattes.

In 2022, I discovered that you could roast your own coffee beans on the stove and I began experimenting with that. It works, but also makes the house super smoky.

I decided to start Rod’s Roast in 2023 because I wanted to bring my love for specialty coffee to the Bluffton community!

All of our coffee is specialty grade meaning it scores 80-100 according to several factors of the coffee. Commercial grade coffee would be grocery store coffee scoring 60-80.

We provide taste notes subtleties which are determined by the bean varietal, terroir (soil & climate conditions), and processing method. Our coffee is always 100% coffee and contains no additives or flavorings.

Roast dates are very important to us because fresh coffee tastes better! Coffees are generally roasted after you order to maximize freshness and offer optimum quality.

Thanks for being part of the this journey! Here are some photos along the way and the last one is me enjoying hot coffee outside in 94 degree heat 😬

Here are our current coffee offerings! All fresh roasted once you order and porch pickup in Bluffton, IN.

I do have a few extra medium roasts just roasted of PNG, Brazil, Kenya, Uganda, and Colombia.

As always, there is only one ingredient: coffee! The flavor comes from the soil/terroir, bean varietal, and processing method (washed/natural).

Kenya - Kirinyaga
Taste Notes: Lighter roasts have rhubarb, grapefruit, blackcurrant, salted caramel, and floral aromas. Medium roast notes are tangerine, buttery taffy, stroopwafel, and coconut with some chocolatey tones. Darker roasts are more mellow with a honey bitterness, slight orange notes, and chocolate.

Papua New Guinea - Simbai
Taste Notes: Sweet, earthy aromatics with taste notes of dried fig or plum, followed by almond paste or almond croissants, finished with a creamy hot cocoa.

My favorite: It has a creaminess that is unmatched! It almost tastes like ice cream sometimes!

Brazil - Cerrado
Taste notes: Cacao nibs, molasses, walnuts, and very low acidity. The coffee has a traditional cafe taste that is very smooth, mellow, and balanced with a thick body.

Uganda - Rwenzori
Light roasts have a sweet and lively taste of mango, strawberry creme, and graham cracker while medium and dark roasts bring out more chocolate notes of gooey brownie, strawberry jam, date syrup, and butterscotch. This coffee is also mild acidity, but still full of lovely flavor and a clean texture.

Mexico Decaf - Water Process
Taste Notes: Silky milk chocolate and oatmeal cookie followed by lovely orange citrus notes

This decaf coffee has undergone a chemical free Mountain Water Decaffeination Process that removed 99% of the caffeine.

Espresso Blend
Taste Notes: Rich chocolate, subtle sweetness like molasses, nutty, full-bodied.

A perfect blend of Brazil, Colombian, and Uganda beans to use for espresso based drinks.

Colombia - Huila is also offered still!

Taste Notes: Sweet acidic notes of dried fig, green tea, green grape, and milk chocolate Heavy body & moderate acidity – definitely a unique flavor profile and brings in some Indonesian complexity Origin: Simbai, Papua New Guinea Altitude: 1600 – 1900 MASL Process: Washed Variety: Bourbon, Typic...

☕ NEW COFFEE OFFERING ☕

Papua New Guinea - Simbai

Taste Notes: Sweet, earthy aromatics with taste notes of dried fig or plum, followed by almond paste or almond croissants, finished with a creamy hot cocoa

Heavy body & moderate acidity – definitely a unique flavor profile and brings in some Indonesian complexity

Origin: Simbai, Papua New Guinea

Altitude: 1600 – 1900 MASL

Process: Washed

Variety: Bourbon, Typica

Harvest: April – July 2024

Story of this coffee:

This coffee has put in the miles. Transportation is very difficult in Papua New Guinea due to the mountainous terrain so once the farmers harvest, wash, and process their coffee cherries, they transport it to four airstrips in the Simbai region. Once there is enough coffee for a full planeload, they fly it to Mount Hagen, PNG to be further shipped around the world.

My importer works with their sister company, Volcafe PNG, to make all of this possible including working with over 4000 small farmers in the Simbai region. Most of the farmers process their coffee cherries using hand-powered de-pulpers. The coffee is then left to ferment 36 hours to remove the sticky mucilage and then set out to dry before trekking to the airstrip.

The one good thing about the mountainous terrain and high altitude creates an amazingly complex and flavorful coffee!
