TEAM USA REACHES THE "ROUND OF 16" FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2002
TEAM USA earned arguably its biggest victory in World Cup history and is one match away from the quarter finals after qualifying for the Round of 16 with a win over Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, that win came at a steep cost. During its 2-0 win on Wednesday night, Folarin Balogun, the U.S. team's leading scorer, was handed a "red card." What does that mean, you might be asking? The U.S. star was ejected from that game AND, worse, is suspended for the next game Monday July 6 against Belgium.
Needless to say, the red card was and still is extremely controversial, but FIFA rules allow no recourse for reconsideration. So, not only does TEAM USA face a Belgium team that is much better than their previous competition, they do so without a star player. It's getting interesting, folks, and Monday's match promises to be exciting and intense, particularly given the controversy surrounding the absence of Balogun. YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS IT!
