Not familiar with Provincial French cooking? A visit to Le Petit Cafe will reveal a cycling menu of simple, yet classy dishes made primarily using the three key ingredients of French cuisine: w**e, butter, and cream! :)

We always offer:
Steak for $19.95
Chicken breast for $13.95
Fish or seafood, usually $15.95
A fourth or fifth special is always available, but with more variety. You could have a choice of pork, rabbit, lamb, or even beef tongue, among other options. While the dish pattern always remains the same, the variety (and true pleasure!) is in Marina's creative sauces, which have kept customers coming back for years! Here at Le "Pete"--as Patrick will often call it as he bumbles around the dining room--the sauces are really what matter. In fact, sometimes we don't even bother with the meat! Just kidding, of course...we may be quirky, but even we know where to draw the line! The meals are inclusive of a soupe du jour or a green salad served with our house vinaigrette, as well as two family-style sides to complement the main dishes. The sides vary from fried potatoes, quiche, or sauteed veggies or greens. And let's not forget appetizers and desserts! For appetizers we offer phyllo dough cheese pastries or chicken liver paté, and our desserts come in a wide variety, from rich chocolate mousse to custard drenched cakes to summer fruit cobblers!

A hilarious conversation.

- Marina, Lupin will be back! R told me this morning, looking rather excited.
But with all the noise from our dishwashing machine and the conversations around us, I did not hear Lupin.
I heard Le Pen.
I never discussed politics with R , but I did not have her down as a supporter of a far right group.
- You mean Marine? I asked a bit confused. Marine Le Pen?
- No! Lupin! On Netflix.
But I still did not hear Lupin.
This time I heard Le Pain.
- Oh. I will check it out. I never heard about it.
- But I thought you loved that series!
- No, I never watch baking shows.
By then I am pretty sure R did not know what to think.
- LU-PIN, she repeated one more time. LU-PIN.

And I finally got it!

Hello,

Fantastic weather this morning, bit of the cold side , just the way it should be.
Rather exciting too to be wearing some of my warm and gray clothes. Something like 6 or 7 shades of gray today, including the hair.

The sad part is that there're only four or five Windows left before the end of the season, depending on how many Thanksgiving dinners I'll have to prepare.
If I get many orders, my last Window will be November 14, if I've got time on my hands, it will be the 21.
I will let you know later.
And if you don't know anything about my Thanksgiving dinners, you will find the info the end of this post.
BUT DO NOT.PLACE YOUR ORDER HERE, SEND IT TO MY EMAIL ADDRESS!

By the way , many people seem to think that this is my last season. Nope, the Window will still be around in 2027.
That will be my last season.
But let's not talk about sad things.

The format remains the same. I haven't given much thought to the cornbread but it will be vegetarian.

Our $ 20 per person dinner includes:
Turkey in tarragon sauce. Sweet and yellow potato gratin in garlic and cream, and cranberry orange sauce. Cornbread.
Dessert is optional:
Pecan chocolate pie (same pie) slice $5/whole $20
Pick up time at the Café (front door, not the Window) Wednesday, November 25 between 5 and 7 pm.

I will stop taking orders on Monday, November 9.

I will need to know:
If you want a whole pie or just one slice or 2.
A preferred pick-up time from 5 to 7 on the evening BEFORE Thanksgiving. If too many of you want the same time, I may ask you to come a little later.
And yes, we do take credit cards.
This sums it up.
Just one more thing: if one of your guests is vegetarian, I will bake a small vegetable quiche.
Pas de problème! Nothing else will contain meat products.

Hello,

Being summer again , I was thinking it would be nice to have a last fig and Havarti crêpe, but then I checked the weather forecast for Saturday and thought it would be safer to go for a warm Carbonara. with eggs and bacon.

The quiche will be gluten free with fresh pumpkin and greens.

More pumpkin in the cheesecake, and probably next week in the bread pudding with that pumpkin custard I want to try.
Come to think of it, that custard should go very well with chocolate mousse…
I'm going to try it on my private diners this Saturday and see what they think.
I'm going to experiment on you and your friends, Alan! 😄

I warned you that during pumpkin season you gonna git it one-way or t’other 😂
Did I ever tell you that one of the first things I read when I arrived here was Snuffy Smith in the Sunday paper, and I thought it was very different from the English I learned in school! 😂

Hello,

I am a person of habits , no doubt.
Whether I am very busy or very hungry, or not, I simply cannot start my day without at least 10 minutes sitting on the lobby couch, drinking my coffee, eating my chocolate croissant, and playing a couple of games of mahjong.
Speaking of which, mahjong tells me that it can do miracles for my memory but I haven't seen that happen yet.

On the other hand, that couch contributes a great deal to my morning well-being and creativity. That's precisely where I decided to prepare another pumpkin quiche for Saturday, but this time with greens instead of bacon for our vegetarian customers, some of whom were disappointed to see the quiche had bacon in it.

This morning, I also took the time to think about that wonderful concert we went to last night: the Boogies concert at the Buskirk. What a group of talented musicians! I thoroughly enjoyed feeding them on Saturday, and even more watching them last night.
Thank you. Mr Brenner, for organizing such wonderful concerts for Bloonington.

Naturally we saw many people we knew, but did not necessarily recognize them.
Speaking of habits, I may see you once a week at the Window, but if I see you anywhere else I may not know who you are...

No, Mahjong is not doing anything for me.

Hello,

A perfect morning here on West 6th.
First thing on the agenda were our flu and covid vaccines at CVS downtown, our favorite pharmacy.
Sarah and Taylor are always the most fun to visit with.

Next, a delicious espresso at Oak, the coffee and plant store on the north side of the Square.
Actually, coffee, plants, clothing and more.
As I told you once before, it's nearly impossible to go there for coffee and not to buy a little something too.
In my case this morning, an adorable black lace top.
Probably too tight and too revealing but really, at my age who cares?
That is one thing I love about getting old, one no longer gives a crap about such considerations.
Not enough time left for complexes, just wear and enjoy that black lace top, Marina!

And right now, preparing a few things for that group of musicians , including our beloved Craig Brenner, who'll be coming for dinner before the concert on Saturday at the Buskirk.
Looking forward to feeding this fun and talented group!

Oops, so excited about pumpkins I forgot to tell you about the crêpe!

The crêpe will be something completely new I've never tried before: a creamy olive tapenade, with herbs and garlic. The taste of olives is not over-bearing and you should not worry about it even if you're not a big fan of olives.
On the other hand watch for the pits , I pitted the olives myself and there could be a stray...

Hello,

Well, you all know about my obsessions with certain vegetables or fruit according to the season,
We had the season of the beet, the cherry's followed by the pears.
And now it's the pumpkin's turn and you will be getting it in at least one dish every week.
In the crêpe first, this Saturday in the quiche with bacon (thank God, bacon season never ends) and next week probably in a cheesecake.

As delicious as pumpkin is , it can be a little dull. The bacon gives it that little something to make it a little sexier, you know, like a little scarf around your neck to improve the look of a plain dress.
A bacon scarf ❤️

And by the way, I wouldn't be surprised if pumpkins found a way into one of my custards.
I say, Hoosiers get quite creative with their pumpkins: in ice cream, latte, etc.

I look like I am crying , but I am actually laughing.
The glorious weather also helped.

On a different note, always make sure you don't leave your credit card behind.
I do understand though: the food looks and smells so good you just want to rush and eat it, right? 😁
But sadly, credit card companies no longer contact their clients and I don't always know how to.

Well, enjoy this weekend, the weather, the music too.

I love that quiet moment waiting for the first customer. I wonder if Tina will be our first today…
Nope , a young man I had never seen before came for a piece of pork pie.

I was just thinking of that hilarious time when a customer recognized me in that picture from almost 50 years ago. Naturally , me being me , I was extremely flattered that he could actually recognize me and I told him so.
But he ruined it by answering “Your name is in the picture.” 😂
Oh well..
