Border Town Pizza Enters New Chapter Under New Local Ownership
A longtime downtown Blaine favorite is entering a new chapter as Border Town Pizza has officially changed hands after more than a decade under its previous ownership.
The announcement was shared by the restaurant and confirmed by new owners Tami and Kamal Bhachu, who officially took over operations this week at the popular pizza shop located at 738 Peace Portal Drive in downtown Blaine.
In a message to customers, the previous owners reflected on their 11 years serving the community, describing the decision as bittersweet but the right time to step away and spend more time with family. They expressed confidence in the transition, saying they were excited to pass the business on to a family they believe will continue its legacy while bringing new ideas to the restaurant.
For the Bhachus, the opportunity was about more than purchasing a business. In an interview with Bellingham Metro News, Tami Bhachu said the family has long wanted to become part of Blaine’s downtown business community.
“We love Blaine and have wanted to be a part of the downtown area for a long time,” Bhachu said. “We live just outside the city limits, but this is our home. We love the hometown feel of all the local businesses and how much this community supports them.”
Bhachu said the family had explored several opportunities over the years, but Border Town Pizza stood out when they met with the previous owner and learned more about the business.
“We had looked at other options for a while, and when we found out about Border Town Pizza and met with the previous owner, it felt like the perfect fit for us,” she said. “The location is incredible right in the hub of the downtown activity. It is a beautiful and fun place to be a part of.”
Customers can expect much of what has made Border Town Pizza a local destination to remain intact. The restaurant plans to continue serving the same recipes that longtime patrons have come to know while gradually introducing some new offerings.
According to Bhachu, one of the additions being explored is a selection of specialty pizzas inspired by Indian flavors, giving customers something new to try while preserving the restaurant’s established menu and identity.
The new owners are also introducing a refreshed visual style for the business. A new logo featuring gears and industrial-inspired artwork has already been unveiled, reflecting what Bhachu describes as an industrial steampunk theme. New merchandise and interior updates are expected to follow as the redesign rolls out.
Beyond the cosmetic changes, the family hopes to further strengthen Border Town Pizza’s role as a community gathering place. Plans include expanding the game room area with board games, puzzles, and additional space designed to encourage families and friends to spend time together over pizza, drinks, and conversation.
Bhachu said maintaining the restaurant’s reputation and connection to the community remains a top priority.
“We want longtime customers to know they can expect the same great quality they know and love, with the same goal of serving our community, just with different hands at the helm,” she said. “Still local. Still family owned and run.”
While the ownership may have changed, the message from both the outgoing and incoming owners is largely the same: Border Town Pizza will continue to be a locally operated business focused on serving the community that has supported it for years.
The Bhachus say they are looking forward to meeting customers, earning their trust, and building on the foundation that has made Border Town Pizza a downtown Blaine staple for more than a decade. For now, they are inviting residents to stop by, say hello, and be part of the restaurant’s next chapter.
A grand re-opening for Border Town Pizza is scheduled for June 27th from 2-4 p.m., according to an announcement released on Friday morning.
