Something special is brewing for National Health Center Week!

WNCCHS has partnered with Dynamite Roasting Company on a limited-edition, co-branded coffee bag, available Aug. 2–9.

Proceeds will benefit WNCCHS and help support our work providing high-quality, whole-person care to people across Western North Carolina, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.

Dynamite Roasting recently welcomed us into its production facility for a behind-the-scenes look at how its certified organic coffee is roasted and packaged. Watch the process—and see our special WNCCHS bag—in the video.

2 new coffees. 14 years in the making. 1 Friday morning to try them. ⛰️

Oscar Omar Alonzo has been growing coffee for us since 2013- our original direct trade partner, back when the COMSA microlot program was still brand new. Last week, two of his newest lots hit our shelves: a Washed Gesha (floral, honey, bergamot) grown on his high-altitude experimental farm, and a Washed Process (grape, creamy vanilla) that’s just as dialed in.

Come taste the results of partnerships beyond coffee. We’re pouring both lots at a public tasting this Friday, July 24th at 10am. Link in bio.

If you’ve been ordering online or in our cafe, you may have noticed a new coffee sitting on the shelves 👀

The Equality Roast is a certified organic Nicaraguan medium roast- notes of milk chocolate and plum-sourced from Cooperativa Agraria Fuente de Bendicion, a 24-member cooperative in San Juan del Río Coco. It's a region that's been quietly doing impressive things in specialty coffee, and this is a good example of why.

Throughout June, all proceeds go to the Campaign for Southern Equality- a nonprofit based in Asheville working to build a South where LGBTQ+ people have equal rights and equal standing in every part of life. They support LGBTQ+ Southerners and their families when it comes to accessing healthcare, being treated fairly in schools, building community, and so much more. We've loved learning more about their work and being able to support it through a special coffee this Pride Month.

The fundraiser runs through the end of June. Available online and at the café every day, 7am to 6pm. 🏳️‍🌈

Something we don't talk about enough: what happens before coffee gets roasted.

This past week, Thomas, our Head Roaster, walked the team through a green coffee evaluation. Every coffee we consider buying comes to us first as a 300g unroasted sample. Thomas evaluates it for color, moisture, and defects before we commit to a single purchase. Seven categories of defects exist in specialty coffee grading. What we're really asking is simpler: is this good enough for the people who trust us with their morning cup?

Some samples come through with issues: particle sours from moisture problems, insect damage, beans that would scorch in the roaster. With producers we don't know, we pass. With the farmers we've built 17-year relationships with, they know what we need. Oscar, Maria, and Lennon oversee the process with a careful hand, ensuring we have more than just specialty coffee to offer.

What made it through this past week is going to be the star for our summer seasonal. We're dropping it next week, and it’s one of the best seasonal coffees we've brought in. In the meantime, the Rwanda Spring Seasonal is in its final week. Notes of juicy peach and floral vanilla, from a cooperative of 700 women in the WCE region- and one of the standout coffees of the season. If you've been meaning to grab a bag now is the time.
