UPDATE : Today, 10-23-25, Bob has been released from the hospital with very strict doctor’s orders for absolutely NO weight on the surgical foot for at least 12 weeks!! It will take that long to heal the collapsed bones and for it foot to get used to the plates and screws!!! It might be time to make up for a lot of missed naps from over the years !!! Thank you for all of the prayers and well wishes !!!!! ~ Today is Bob’s big surgery day. Please keep Bob and his surgical team in your thoughts and prayers🙏🙏. It sounds like there will be plates and a few little and big screws going into this size 13 foot!! It has been a hectic 3 weeks getting the Little Cottage in order for its next adventure!!! 29 years of storing EVERYTHING made for a very full basement !!!! We could never ever even begin to thank every single one of you who called, private messaged, texted, stopped by the Little Cottage to visit, bought Little Cottage apparel, the cards and gifts, the drop off of coffee, and so, so many offers to help move, sorry we only let family help because Bob is very, very particular about things but we so appreciate every single offer, and also everyone who engaged in conversations around town with us, and the HUGS!!!!, oh how we loved the hugs!!!! ❤️❤️. And for any one who never received a reply, we apologize!! Our phones blew up for at least 2-3 days and we were a little overwhelmed with emotions and messages and sometimes some got lost in the abundance of so many of them!!!! Bob and I truly never, ever realized how blessed and fortunate we were to have the support, friendship, and love of so many beautiful human beings and our community!!!! Our hearts are overflowing with so much gratitude for being blessed with your friendship, love and support!!! You all are truly, magnificently the BEST!!!! ❤️🙏

Life has been a crazy whirlwind since our Facebook closing post on Tuesday!!! Bob and I are on crunch time to get 30 years of everything you can think of cleaned out of the Cottage before his surgery later this month!! But we definitely want to reach out to everyone who has a gift certificate from The Little Cottage cafe to please stop in if you see our vehicles (mainly mine-Wanda’s) parked behind the building. We definitely want to reimburse you for your unused certificates. If you know of anyone who might have one and isn’t on Facebook please reach out to them and tell them to stop by!! We want to be fair and pay everyone back for these unused certificates. Bob’s surgery is scheduled for October 22nd so please stop in sooner rather than later!! Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for understanding!!!❤️. The front door will be locked, please use the door on the left side of the building!

This might be the hardest post that I have ever written, besides my brother and dad’s deaths both in 2024. We have had to deal with so many rumors in the last few years, and today the one true one is that we will be closing effective immediately. After starting out working as a server at the Little Cottage cafe 37 years ago and then talking Bob, who was a customer at the time, into buying the restaurant 29 years and 9 months ago, we have decided (after so many memories , laughs, and frustrations) that we need to slow down, take life a little easier, and make Bob’s health our #1 priority!! Bob had absolutely no restaurant or cooking experience back in 1997 when he bought this place and thanks to Gene Kroll, the kitchen manager at the time, and being an excellent self-taught cook, Bob has become an amazing chef around the Little Cottage kitchen, cooking up some delicious food !!! 😋😜 This isn’t exactly the way we had planned to finish our careers at the Little Cottage Cafe, we had hoped to at least make it to the end of the year, but our options for Bob are to get off of his feet and have surgery sooner rather then later or risk amputation of the foot with Charcot. So effective tomorrow, October 1st, 2025, there will no longer be a Little Cottage Cafe. 🥲🥲💔~We feel a little bit like Michael Jordan of the restaurant world, going out at the top of our game!!! What a truly amazing ride it has been!!! I have so many pictures of a packed, full restaurant and also so many of a line out the door of all of you waiting to enjoy our delicious, homemade food!!! We are so eternally grateful for every single person, young, old or somewhere in between who has ever dined in our restaurant, ordered a to go order, liked our page or shared our post, or referred a new customer or friend. (We heard of so many wonderful people and businesses around the Bismarck/Mandan area who sent potential customers to us for breakfast or lunch-we really appreciate you all!!!) Bob and I were so, so blessed that you let us cook for you and created the chance that you would become a regular or a friend!!! Bob and I are so proud of our little, tiny dream that we dedicated our strength, perseverance and hard work to!! And even when hiring got tough, we always tried to surround ourselves with great team members!! We appreciate everyone’s hard work throughout the 29 and 3/4 years!!!! We will always be so proud of the amazing, top-notch service that we provided and the fabulous food that came out of our kitchen!!! ~
Patrons; go forth, be kind, be patient, be appreciative of the restaurant staff working hard to serve you but please always hold close to your ❤️ hearts, the fond memories and amazing food that you found at The Little Cottage Cafe!!!! 🥰😍😘 ~ Love ❤️ and gratitude, Bob and Wanda Serr

We can’t decide who brings us more joy, the really little sweethearts or the slightly older people?!!! ❤️❤️❤️~Every little thing that passes their lips is delicious!!! From the coffee ☕️, down to the delectable, amazing caramel rolls and pies and brownies to our perfect breakfast meals to our tasty sandwiches, soups and everything in between!!!!
