If you’re familiar with Taco Casa, Taco Sombrero will feel somewhat familiar — but we honestly thought Taco Sombrero took this style of fast-food Mexican to another level.
We ordered the Macho Nacho Grande along with hard and soft tacos, and one of the first things we noticed was how surprisingly clean the food tasted. Nothing was swimming in grease or left us with that heavy feeling you sometimes get after fast food. The beef was flavorful without being overly greasy, the lettuce and tomatoes tasted fresh, and the cheese was plentiful without completely overpowering everything else.
The biggest surprise was the texture. The taco shells and tortilla chips were genuinely crisp and tasted fresh, rather than oily or stale. Even underneath all the toppings on the nachos, the chips had a great crunch. The jalapeños added plenty of kick, and everything tasted simple, fresh and satisfying.
We both commented afterward that we didn’t have that sluggish, uncomfortable feeling we sometimes get from fast food, and neither of us had any digestive upset afterward. Obviously everyone’s stomach is different, but for us that was a huge plus and made the meal feel much lighter than we expected.
Coming from Arkansas and being familiar with Taco Casa, this was a fun comparison. Taco Casa may be the closest reference we can think of, but Taco Sombrero absolutely has its own Gulf Coast personality. It feels less like mass-produced fast food and more like an old-school regional taco place that happens to serve the food quickly.
And the value was excellent. Our entire order — Macho Nacho Grande, four hard tacos, two soft tacos and two drinks — came to only $26.60 after tax. Two people left full without spending $40–$50 on lunch.
Fast, affordable, crispy, fresh-tasting and, most importantly for us, not greasy. Taco Sombrero was one of those places we tried while traveling and immediately wished we had back home.
Definitely a 5-star stop in Biloxi. 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮
