Sometimes the best coffee shop is wherever you happen to stop.

There doesn’t need to be much to it. A place to sit, good company, and a hot cup of coffee can turn an ordinary stop along the way into a moment worth staying for. On this particular day, it happened to be a wooden bench overlooking the mountains with a little snow still on the ground.

We spend a lot of time talking about destinations and adventures, but some of our favorite memories have happened somewhere in between. Those unexpected stops, conversations that last longer than planned, and another cup poured before getting back on the road are often what we remember most.

One of the best parts of owning a coffee company has very little to do with selling coffee.

It’s getting to share something we’re genuinely proud of with other people. Over the years, GRO Coffee has put us face to face with thousands of people, and somewhere along the way, customers became friends, conversations turned into relationships, and a simple bag of coffee became the beginning of connections we never could have expected when we started this company.

There is still something incredibly rewarding about handing someone a bag of our coffee for the first time and hearing later how much they enjoyed it. We take a tremendous amount of pride in what goes into every bag, but just as important to us are the people on the other side of it. Making great coffee matters, but knowing that something we created brought a little happiness to someone’s day makes what we do that much more meaningful.

Maybe that’s one of the greatest things coffee has given us. Not just something to put in a cup, but an opportunity to meet people, build friendships, and share something we truly love.

Some friendships begin long before you ever shake hands.

When I made the decision to attend Overland Expo PNW, I reached out to my friend Ramin Ramin khaliqi and asked if he wanted to make the trip down from Canada. We had known each other for a while but had never actually met in person, so when he worked out his schedule and made the trip down for the weekend, we finally had the opportunity to connect face to face.

Saturday morning, I brought the GRO Coffee, Ramin brought the gear, and we made a fresh pot right off the tailgate of his Jeep Gladiator. We stood there drinking coffee and talking like two old friends who had done it a hundred times before.

That’s one of the things we’ve always loved about coffee. It has a way of becoming part of the moments that bring people together. Sometimes it’s around the kitchen table, sometimes it’s beside a campfire, and sometimes it’s two friends standing at the tailgate of a Jeep hundreds of miles from home.

The coffee may not be the reason you remember the moment, but somehow it always seems to find its way into the memories worth keeping.

The best camping trips aren’t remembered because everything went according to plan. They’re remembered because everyone gathered around the fire, the coffee kept brewing, dinner turned into dessert, and nobody was in a hurry to call it a night.
