To our Thurston's followers - both local and from away,
Late Friday night my husband, Derek, and I got word that there was a boat fully engulfed in flames on its mooring in Bass Harbor. We rushed to the wharf and Derek was able to relocate three boats from their moorings and out of harm's way as the Coast Guard began dousing the flames on the now freely drifting boat.
Nate Snow is one of our fishermen at Thurston's, and catches many of the lobsters we serve to our customers all summer long. He is a young, hardworking and extremely conscientious lobsterman. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Besides the most obvious financial devastation of losing his well-equipped vessel, Nate and his wife will also be missing out on vital income at the onset of the most profitable portion of the season.
Lobstermen are an enormous part of our local community and economy, with thousands of jobs tied to their success.
If you are able, I ask you to consider donating to this hardworking young couple. If you are not in a position to give, please share this fundraiser in an effort to get it to as many people as possible.
With appreciation,
Christina
