Can we be real for a minute?
We saw that people were willing to wait an hour and a half in line at 7 Brew for a free NeeDoh yesterday.
And honestly, it made my heart sink a little.
Not because I'm angry. Not because I think anyone did anything wrong. And definitely not because I believe people shouldn't support businesses they enjoy.
It just made me think about all of us little businesses out here trying so hard to build something.
The trailers. The bakeries. Coffee shops. Boutiques. The family-owned restaurants. The people setting up before the sun comes up, working late into the night, putting their own money back into their business, and wondering constantly if they're doing enough.
And here's the thing...
We don't just want customers.
We don't just want numbers.
We don't even want a line wrapped around the block just so I can say I had one.
We want relationships.
We want to know your name. We want to know your usual order. We want to watch your kids grow up.
We want families to say, "Let's go to Kelley Ts DJ BINGO " and have that mean more than just getting a bite to eat and screaming Bingo!
We want the kids who come to our restaurant now to someday be older and remember getting pancakes, ice cream with the family or coming in the kitchen for a hug.
We want Kelley T’s to be part of birthdays, after-school treats, Saturday mornings, celebrations, showers, surprises, hard days and ordinary days ....that somehow become memories.
And maybe this sounds crazy to you, but to us little businesses, it makes sense.
But we want Kelley Ts to be someone's safe place.
A place where you can come exactly as you are.
A place where you're greeted with a smile.
A place where the mom who's had the longest day can sit for a minute while her kids are happy.
A place where teenagers feel welcome.
A place where families can spend time together without feeling like they need to spend a fortune.
A place where someone might walk in having a terrible day and leave feeling just a tiny bit better.
That's what we are building....
with humble confidence.
That's why giving back matters so much to us as well. That's why we've given so many donations to teams, organizations, supported community events and will always try our best to show up when our communities need something. ALL OF OUR SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES, not just pick and choose.
Not because we EVER expect anything back.....
Because I don't want Kelley Ts to simply exist in a community.
I want us to be part of the community.
So yes, when I see hundreds of people willing to wait an hour and a half for something from a huge company, there's a tiny part of this small-business owner that wonders...
Will people ever be that excited about something we built?
That's vulnerable to admit. But it's real.
We are not asking anyone to stop supporting big businesses. We are not asking anyone to shop small every single time.
We are just asking you not to forget about the little guys.
Because sometimes that little trailer, bakery, boutique or family-owned shop isn't trying to become the next giant corporation.
Sometimes there's just a person behind that counter with a really big dream...
hoping to build something their community would miss if it were gone.
And that's exactly what we hope Kelley Ts is becoming.....
Happy Tuesday✌️🩷🍳🥓
