One week in… and wow. 🤍

Our first weekend back under our new concept was something we’ll never forget. The outpouring of love and support absolutely blew us away. So many of you showed up for us all at once — and while our hearts were full, our ticket line definitely was too. We know we disappointed and frustrated some of you with the long waits, and for that, we are truly sorry. We powered through the best we could, and we’re incredibly humbled by the experience.

I guess we didn’t realize just how much everyone missed Lulu while we were away. That kind of love is something we will never take for granted.

This past week has already been so much smoother. We’re still working out some kinks as we transition into being more of a to-go focused restaurant than we’ve ever been before, but each day feels more dialed in. Your personal emails, messages, and thoughtful feedback have meant more than you know. We read them all. We listen. We care.

By next week, we’re confident we’ll be fully in our flow — stronger, sharper, and ready to serve you the way you deserve.

We are overwhelmed in the best way. Because of you — our community, our friends, our extended family — we are officially reopening this Saturday.

Your generosity helped us cover immediate bills and the hard reopening costs that came with the sewage line break during our rebrand. When our insurance denied coverage for our closure, it left us in a position we never expected to be in. What you did for us truly bridged that gap.

There aren’t enough words to thank you for rallying around our family the way you did.

As we get ready to open our doors again, there is still one thing weighing heavily on my heart: our team. Two weeks without income can be truly detrimental, especially here in the Bay Area. Before our claim was denied, I promised my staff they would be taken care of during this closure — and I still intend to honor that promise.

If you’re able, please continue sharing our GoFundMe. And if you have even $1 to spare, it would mean more than you know. Truly — if everyone who follows us donated just one dollar, we would be able to fully cover what’s needed to support our team.

To Our Lulu Community,

Last month, we experienced a devastating sewage line break at Lulu that forced us to close our doors unexpectedly. We truly believed our insurance would cover the closure and the loss of income during this time. Unfortunately, we just received the news that they will only cover $5,000 of what will be over $100,000 in losses from being closed for more than a month.

We have never asked our community for help before. But this is one of those moments where we can’t do it alone.

The financial impact of this closure is overwhelming. Without support, it could bankrupt us. The funds raised will go directly toward rent, utilities, and paying the dedicated employees who have been unable to work for the past three weeks. Our team is family, and protecting them matters deeply to us.

We were in the middle of a rebrand and pouring everything we had into the next chapter of Lulu. To have this happen right before launching what we’ve worked so hard to build has been heartbreaking.

If Lulu has ever been a place where you’ve celebrated, gathered, connected, or felt at home, we humbly ask you to consider donating whatever you can. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference in helping us survive this setback.

Next month our menu is a nostalgic one for Chef Mona!

To celebrate thanksgiving, we are offering a menu reminiscent of a Palestinian households Thanksgiving with a soul-warming lentil soup, musakhan served with a whole spatchcocked sumac marinated chicken, and a crispy, gooey, take-and-bake knafeh just like Chef Mona’s favorite auntie, the knafeh queen, used to make!

SHE’S BAAAACKK!!!
Y’all have been begging and pleading and reminding and politely asking to bring the fried chicken sando back we served at our original location, and we did it—we finally did it! We couldn’t keep saying no! 🤷🏽‍♀️ I mean, we are here to make your tummies happy right?
She is practically identical to the last with the sumac fried chicken doused in fish sauce caramel, simsim roll and herby daikon slaw—BUT—with a little glow up! This time, the shatta aïoli is made with our house fermented habanero shatta, it’s more flavorful with an extra little kick and we love it! We don’t know how long this will stay on the menu, but if you’ve been missing it and you’ve been asking us for it, don’t wait too long to come in!
