These are delicious any time of day and any season.
Banana Bread Bars
1 1/2 C sugar
1 C sour cream
1/2 C butter, room temp
2 eggs
4 ripe bananas, mashed
2 tsp vanilla
2 C flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 C chopped walnuts
Brown butter frosting
1/2 C butter
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3 TBSP milk
4 C powdered sugar
Heat oven to 375. Prepare 15 x 10 pan (or smaller for thicker bars).
Combine sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs--beat until creamy.
Blend in bananas and vanilla.
Add flour and baking soda.
Stir in walnuts.
Spread into pan and bake 20 - 25 minutes (longer for smaller pan).
For frosting, heat butter in large saucepan over medium heat until boiling. Let butter turn light brown and then remove from heat immediately.
Whisk in remaining ingredients until smooth.
Spread over bars as soon as removed from oven.
*you want the frosting to be warm when you Spread it, so try to time it so the frosting will be done right before or shortly after the bars come out of the oven.
*the browned butter gives it just a little different taste. It is just as good if you don't have the time or patience to brown the butter. Plus, it's really easy to burn it if you get distracted with something else.
You can sprinkle a little or alot of walnuts on top.
