We had to wait a little while before saying anything, because we wanted to find the words that could truly express the loss we feel with the passing of the dearly beloved Ms. Dolly Parton.

And the truth is, we’re still not sure those words exist.

First, thank you to everyone who reached out to us. So many of you asked the same question, and the answer is yes.

This Friday, beginning at 7 PM, we will gather for a Celebration of Life & Vigil for Dolly Parton.

This will not be an event we want to “sell.” There is no clever promotion to make and no sales pitch that feels appropriate. We simply want to open our doors and make room for our community to come together, to listen to her music, share stories, sing if the spirit moves us, and celebrate a woman whose kindness, humor, generosity, and unapologetic sense of self inspired so many of us.

There will be no traditional cover charge. Instead, if you are able, we ask that you bring a children’s book that you are willing to let us donate on your behalf.

It feels like the most fitting tribute we could offer to a woman who spent so much of her life making sure children had books of their own.

More details will come as we put them together. For now, we simply wanted you to know that there will be a place here Friday night for anyone who needs one.

Come as you are. Bring a book. Bring a story. Bring your favorite Dolly song.

We’ll celebrate her together.
