the tradition lives on!

Another successful and decadent formal! This semester we held our "Spig Boon 90z 4mal" in french house/KD for the last time. We cooked for about 40 people and had an abundance of food. We had a super creamy vegan lasagna, fresh pesto pasta, braided sesame challah, asparagus/brie appetizers, handmade falafel, a great british baking show inspired sponge cake, homemade kimchi, a goat cheese arugula salad, dine rolls, and cookies on cookies on cookies.

These nights are so fun for all of us and display how we can all come together to celebrate FOOD and community. We love sharing our community with all our dates and hope to carry this tradition for future generations of the co-op.

UPDATES!
Big Spoon has had a great semester thus far full of love and food! We have so many seniors this semester that we are sad to see leave, but so excited to have so many new faces as well! This semester we have revived the forager position, Emma Richardson and Jack Collins have taken charge and made helpful lists of what we should be buying in what season. We have been sustaining our scholarship program and will continue to do so, as we want to include as many passionate foodies as possible. Our IM soccer team, Spig Boon, has been kicking major b***y this semester, we are even scoring goals and all! We are closely linked with the Beloit Urban Garden (BUG) and are excited to have the garden defrosting. This past weekend a spooner, Christine Shonnard led a trip to Angelic Organics with a few other members and they had a wonderful time working for a local organic farm that is devoted to food justice. Some BIG NEWS is that we will be moving next semester! Our new home will be in the newly renovated 609 kitchen. We are sad to leave the historic French House, but excited to have a space that will allow us more freedom and is actually larger!

Mega huge co-op this semester! Total of 23 members and we always more guests coming in to have dinner with us!

This semester formal was held in 840 (our potential new space). We have a three course meal with sangria for all. This year we were able to host about 40 people and it was great to have so many new faces!!

Big spoon has been off to a gr8 start this Fall semester! We are now at full capacity with 22 members! We have a lot of new faces and are happy to have our other members returning from semesters abroad. Starting on the first day of class we have been having home cooked meals every weeknight along with desserts and homemade bread!

To all Big Spoon alums we want to let you all know that Big Spoon is going strong and we appreciate all the groundwork you did for this co-op in years past! We would also love to hear some of your stories, recipes, and life tips. So please email them to our historian at [email protected].
