Flow control. Coarser grind. Longer ratios. Lower pressure.

Espresso is changing as coffee style evolves, coffee quality improves, and roast profiles are approached differently.

This shot of the Liliana Ramirez chiroso went a little longer than I’d like, but this was very good. Berry, fruity, and jammy as an espresso and just as tasty in a little bit of milk as a cortado.
I was blown away by how clear and complex the flavor came through on espresso with such a light profile. I’m here for it.

The OXO Rapid Brewer wasn’t initially designed for hot coffee. It was meant to make cold coffee.
After adapting the brewer to take hot water, Chris and the team realized that just made a brewer that could do both, and the hot coffee was really good!

Our current menu has got us saying that about every coffee. For those who are looking for something outside the norm to drink at home, this is a good time to order a few bags.

Three simple pour over tips that are easy to implement and give you much greater returns on your brews.

1. Simplicity is key.
Simple recipes > complex recipes. Simple recipes leave less room for mistakes, increase repeatability, and just easier overall.

2. Subtle changes
We don’t need to be changing the temperature with every coffee. It’s usually small tweaks to an already great recipe that gets you to tasty town.

3. Coffee is king.
Easiest way to brew better coffee is buy better coffee. Actually not necessarily “better” coffee, but aligned with your preferences. No body is making you drink anything so drink what you like.
If you like tasty, very lightly roasted coffee, then check out our menu. You can be drinking our coffees very soon.

Buying new coffee drippers is fun and definitely worth it for experimentation and learning. For some odd reason, we always hear people say, “I just ended up going back to the V60”
Reliable, affordable, and delicious.

Did you know the OXO Rapid Brewer was originally intended to brew iced coffee? We had Chris Diskin on the podcast, one of the lead engineer behind the ORB. He gave us his iced coffee recipe that we’ll certainly be trying out.

Recipe:
1:8 ratio / 20:160
Add 2 parts hot water
Push through after 30s
Add 6 parts room temp water
Enjoy over ice

Flavor notes on coffee bags are not additional flavors roasters add to the coffee. They’re more descriptors that help give you a better idea of what the coffee tastes like before you buy a bag.

You may or may not taste the flavor notes on the bag. It’s often that we drink coffees from other roasters where the notes don’t align with what we’re tasting. On the other hand, it does help us get in the general ballpark of what to expect.
