HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

On July 22, 2012, we opened our little drive-thru in Bellevue, WA. It's amazing to see how far we've come in such a short time. We grew quickly, but we've never forgotten our roots. We will carry on the tradition in our new cafe, with the same name. We couldn't have done it without you, our loyal fans. We remain committed to qual

*knock* *knock* Hello DTB family. You still there?

It’s been over a good long three years since I’ve written anything here.

We’ve been busy traveling and also enjoying time with our daughter. You could kind of say it’s just us catching up on so many lost opportunities to be with her during those uber crazy busy years while we ran the drive-thru and downtown café.

Today, we had another dose of beautiful PNW weather - a perfect day to go outside and get milk tea. I decided to drop by a local shop for my first time, and it was both very rewarding and humbling, bumping into several of you. It was like a wonderful reminder of all the smiles that we used to see on a daily basis. It meant a lot to me that you honestly even remembered us, because it seems like so much time has passed.

We wanted to take this opportunity to say "Hi" and catch you all up on what we’ve been doing. The most important gift we want to give our daughter is the opportunity/experience of seeing the world. We spent quite a lot of time in Europe (Rome, Venice, and even Iceland to name a few), popped by Dubai, hopped around everywhere in Asia, and squeezed in some”Down Under“ time.

Ultimately, the place where we spent the majority of our time at, was back in Taiwan - getting to be intimately familiar with all the different regions of such a beautiful and globally important island (shoot, we almost moved back there), rich in history with both its people AND food. And I’ll just stress THE food THE most, because I have the gut growth to prove it!

We arrived back in Bellevue several weeks ago for the start of the new school year. It got us thinking… should we open another store??

Obviously it won’t be your standard brick & mortar shop/café. Instead, we like our current flexible schedule without the headache of finding/training employees, so we’re considering running the operation out of a ghost kitchen (online ordering, pickup's, deliveries, etc). This way, we’ll have greater control over our hours and we can continue to balance out family and business.

We hope you and your families have been doing well during these past challenging years. We have missed you. Have a wonderful weekend!

We have some extra dairy from Saturday (I miscalculated... my bad) and we were just able to order more medical supplies. Even though we'll be moving out of the cafe this week, we will still continue to help medical staff as much as possible. We'd like to do one last round of donations and instead of letting the dairy go to waste, we figured that a few people could get a last boba fix at the same time.

Your response and support has been absolutely amazing - we can't thank you enough. First responders and hospital staff have been brave and selfless in their efforts to save lives. We feel the need to make some sort of effort and contribute what we can to support them. It's the right thing to do.

Please place your order by Tuesday 3pm. Once we receive your order, you will be assigned a timeslot via email Tuesday evening after 10pm.

* We apologize that we will not be accepting punch cards as we are limiting all physical contact both for your and our safety.

April 8, 2020 (4:30pm)

It's a beautiful Spring day and we packed up the truck to make hospital deliveries. We had such an increase in donations that we couldn't squeeze everything into the car this time - all thanks to your generosity.

Special thanks to Van Luu, Matt Melchoir, Andy Chou, and Vlad Cabildo for also donating supplies.

We also have additional N95 respirators and surgical masks enroute. But due to delays in shipping, we wanted to get these supplies into the hands of hospital staff ASAP. The rest will be distributed as soon as they arrive.

We're but a small lil mom & pop shop, however we have many loyal fans. While our united effort barely compares to that of a large corporation, we are not going to give up doing whatever we can to help. Please continue to donate what you can.

April 5, 2020 (3:20pm)

We are sold out for tomorrow's pickup. We will send out emails with your assigned timeslot later this evening (around 10pm). Please be sure to check your email, including spam/junk folders. Once again, a big THANK YOU for your generous donations and continued support during this time. You guys ROCK!

April 1, 2020 (12:45a)

Karen and I wanted to take this time to update to you all and thank everyone who has already generously donated (and even those who have donated more than once). A big shout out several of our most generous donors:

Leon Cao, Eric Ronay, Myra Loo, Brian Yu, Jennifer Nguyen (Bellevue), Jennifer Nguyen (Seattle), Kelvin Sezto, Vincent Lung, Leah Huang & Andy Chou

We've been very productive and busy this past week collecting donations (both money and actual supplies) for the UW Medical Center that will be delivered in a few days.

As Washingtonians, we need to continue to "stay home, stay healthy" because it's the most effective means we have to fight the pandemic here. Incorporating both online ordering and staggered pickup intervals (before the governor's order was announced) was a means (at THAT time it might have seemed weird, but now?) for us to keep you all safe and a way for us to continue serving our products until we moved out of the cafe. It has also enabled us to do something productive and very rewarding, by working as a community, to give back to those most in need.

Last week, we ran into a hiccup with our move-out plans (but it still has a silver lining) - we couldn't rent a moving truck because our storage facility and its resources (moving vans/trucks) are not an essential activity. However, we now have a backup plan AND also an extra few days. And we intend to make it count!

We believe that we will be able to gather enough dairy to do one last online order or something different (desserts/snacks?) with pickup/delivery towards the end of this week. No guarantees or promises at the moment, because our first priority is still being able to fully move our equipment out.

This time (this will be our 3rd overall), we hope to make our donation to Overlake Medical Center. If you have not had an opportunity to give yet, please help make this really count. N95 respirators are in very short supply, but Karen is doing her best to locate and to purchase almost everything else, from authorized retailers, that the medical staff critically need.

We understand that we're all in a difficult situation - some more difficult than others. That means that not everyone is able to donate and that's perfectly understandable. But you can still help us get the word out and let someone else know what we're doing. For those of you who are able to and can help, we appreciate your effort and generosity because we need to continue to work together to .

You're all a part of the DTB family. Thank you.

March 27, 2020

Right on the heels of yesterday's donation delivery to Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, we're already working on the next mission and we're asking for your help. Karen and I have already started purchasing supplies from authorized retailers with our own money for another donation to the UW Medical Center. The immediate need is there and they can't afford to wait for proper protection. If we get enough donations, we will purchase more and distribute to other local hospitals. Are you able and willing to help?

Let's face the facts. We are all impacted by this disease and it's not something any of us wanted, but it's here. The worst part is that it's invisible and there's no known cure yet. Should you need life-saving help, it will be the medical professionals that you will be depending on. Every day, they risk their lives, even with protection, to save ours. If we lose them, then we lose everything. Our frontline responders need us just as much as we need them.

We understand that we're all in a difficult situation - some more difficult than others. That means that not everyone is able to donate and that's perfectly understandable. But you can still help us get the word out and let someone else know what we're doing. For those of you who are able to and can help, we appreciate your effort and generosity because we need to work together.

You're all a part of the DTB family. Thank you.

March 26, 2020

We are stronger when we work together.

Karen and I just delivered much needed supplies to EvergreenHealth Hospital in Kirkland this afternoon. The staff were very appreciative and told us that these would be put to good use this very week - an indication of just how low their PPE inventories have become.

We'd like to thank everyone who participated, especially Myra Loo who went above and beyond by donating $100 even though she only ordered a few drinks. We combined the collected funds along with what we could spare and purchased as much as possible: N95 respirators, surgical (ear loop) face masks, surgical gloves, and hand sanitizer.

We have already started purchasing supplies with our own money for another donation to the UW Medical Center. We would like to ask for your help in making this contribution even bigger so it will have a greater impact. The immediate need is there and they can't afford to wait for proper protection. Are you able and willing to help by giving more?

If we can accomplish it this weekend, we're looking to use up the rest of our supplies in the cafe (before our final move out) and offer either online ordering with pickup or delivery (minimum orders and within 5-7 mile radius).

Every day seems to start with more depressing news, but we can't let that affect us. By continuing everyone's duty to help flatten the curve, support one another emotionally, and protect those most in need (both the medical staff on the front lines and the most vulnerable to the disease), we can get through this together as a community.

** ALL ONLINE ORDERS MUST INCLUDE A 15% TIP THAT WILL BE USED AS A DONATION FOR US TO PURCHASE/DELIVER MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO LOCAL HOSPITALS. IF NO TIP IS ADDED, ORDERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE CANCELLED **

We apologize that we are 40 minutes late, but we have been receiving email after email from customers asking why the online store hasn't opened yet.

These are all the items that we have left. Please specify which 15min timeslot you would prefer between 4-6pm. We might have to rearrange and notify you when to pick your order up, while still allowing everyone to maintain adequate social distancing.

When you come to the outside of the cafe, please kindly wait OUTSIDE on the sidewalk. Our doors will be locked. DO NOT try to push on the doors. We will have a box/table where you can pick your pre-bagged order up to avoiid any/all contact. We understand that it may rain and be cold, but everyone's safety (including ours) is important.
