Tuesday was a record breaking day and I had personal issues come up and I wasn't there most of the day which left my staff to keep everything together. It was packed as soon as the doors opened and there was a group of 30!!!!! that blew their minds. Couldn't even keep Coffee made!!! Thanks to my people for hanging in and allowing me time to take care of some important things.
Today was a little more calm and the magic of holding a very close to newborn baby renews the spirit like nothing else. Our wonderful Micah came in with sweet Asa, born August 9th, and let us love on him. They are all doing well. See attached pic!

Got to attend a beautiful service today for Bob Marsh and was able to hear great stories while laughing and crying with those who loved him. He was a character who lived out his faith. Thrilled I knew him and get to continue calling his wife a friend!

None of us are guaranteed one more second; those people around you matter and you should tell them. As my precious staff dwindles and we readjust and add new faces, it is emotional and challenging. We laugh, share, cry, and here lately for me it has been heavy on the crying. We have lost several of our customers/friends recently; Steve Fults on Sunday and I just received word about an hour ago that Bob Marsh passed this morning. He came to my old place almost daily and just like clock work, he and his wife were through the door at the new place for breakfast 7:15. Precious people and I am not sure how much more I can take so close together.
Today was Bella's last day as she heads to Lexington to finish her degree. Next week we send Camryn off and boy talk about adjusting. It happens every fall and I should be used to it but....

Last week was an emotional roller coaster with babies being born, people leaving for school, illnesses, discouraging medical diagnosis for some close to us, death of a close personal friend of our family, and this morning we learned of the death of Steve Fults. Steve and his wife Phyllis have been a constant presence in the diner from day one in our old location. They supported us and made us smile and be better at what we do! They loved sitting at the bowling table and it will be a big chair to fill now that he is gone. He passed yesterday on his 80th birthday and we are still in shock and praying for his family.
We have a cooler down so if anyone has an extra in their garage (ha), let me know.

Back to school and we never know what that first day will be like but today was not what I had imagined. One person left ill and we were left scrambling trying to keep up with one of the biggest weekdays we have ever had. My staff is amazing and kept up very well but when you have to shift people around when someone leaves, it kind of blows my mind.

So not ready for school to start and I don't even have kids in school! Huge staff changes happening over the next 2 weeks and things look to be working out with various staff stepping up and filling in where needed. I was spoiled for several weeks with someone else opening for me some mornings and then that stopped a couple of weeks ago and I have been hit hard going back to opening every day. One of my great staff has stepped up to open a couple of days a week and give me a little relief again!

I didn't post at all last week and not much the week before so I am catching up! So many out of towners plus our great regular customers tends to create massively busy days.
Several months ago I agreed to do an off site catering event for 200 this past Sunday. Who would have known that 2 weeks ago I lost 2 people and last week SIX people were gone all week!? Talk about the week being a blur. My hardy bakers helped so much but my head still turned completely around several times Friday and Saturday trying to pull it all together. Then someone who usually works grill called in Saturday morning and I was on grill most of the day. So my brain is fried.
Prep day there are usually my grocery shopper and at least 3 others but usually 4. Today there was 3 of us and we never stopped ! The only thing you won't like is that there is no homemade bread for tomorrow.

A huge reminder that we are closed tomorrow and Saturday! Enjoy the 4th! As I say pretty much every year : light a sparkler for me, they are my favorite.
Some of you know that Kyle and I ran away on Sunday and I realized that I haven't really relaxed in a looooong time. We are in Chattanooga staying in a rail car at the choochoo hotel. Birthplace of Moon Pies, Little Debbie's, and the first Coca-Cola bottling plant. I learned that tonight on a phenomenal 3 hour walking food tour that gave us a nice taste of the city. Thanks Michael from Chatt tours for making it spectacular.
We have been hot and sweaty like all of you but so nice to not have an agenda. We took a riverboat tour, antiqued all one day, thrifted all one day, went to the Chattanooga Aquarium (penguins are my jam so I was thrilled!), shopped a lot of little stores, watched my first soccer game all the way from beginning to end, and so much more. Heading home tomorrow and thanks to my crew who held it together Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday!
