Happy Big Blue Birthday to Bedford, Kentucky's very own, the late Jack Tingle (middle row, 2nd player on the left from Coach Rupp).
Jack was a gifted athlete. As an eighth grader he was already playing varsity basketball for Trimble High. As a freshman, he was named to the All-Star team of the North Central Kentucky Conference, and he received that honor four straight years while in high school.
Jack was a Wildcat from 1943 to 1947. He scored 948 points while at UK, and he became one of only 3 players in the University's history to be named to the All Star team of the SEC, four years in a single sport, or otherwise. The other players similarly named were Wallace "Wah Wah" Jones, a teammate of Jack, and Ralph Beard.
During his sophomore year when Kentucky was playing Notre Dame in Louisville, it appeared as though the Irish would beat the Cats, but in the final minute, Jack sparked the Cats when he intercepted the ball. Kentucky would go on score 8 points, and defeat Notre Dame. Coach Rupp, in praising him called Tingle "One of our battlers always fighting, and always in there. An all-round basketball player."
In the 4 years that Jack played with Kentucky, the Wildcats won the SEC Title every year.
