In 1999, I sold two companies and made plans to spend retirement traveling the world with my wife Carolyn. It only took a few years to realize I was not cut out to live the life of leisure and travel! After months of discussing what our next move would be, Carolyn and I settled on opening a restaurant. Not only could we share our love of feeding people we could also spend our days together meeting
new people. Our grandson suggested using the name of our ranch. Rockin A had been our ranch name and brand we had used on our cattle for over 50 years. Rockin A would now become our restaurant name and logo. We built Rockin A Cafe at 3520 West Cardinal drive. The family recipes were gathered, family and friends were recruited and on January 6, 2003 Rockin A Cafe officially opened its doors. Our team of dedicated cooks have worked tirelessly over the years to make Rockin A Cafe the best it can be. I use the word cook instead of chef because in our case none of us are “trained”. We are just a team of people cooking Southeast Texas favorites for our Southeast Texas favorites. What we lack in fancy training we make up for in flavor and gravy! I have always felt that in the restaurant business word of mouth is your best advertisement. When you depend on word of mouth to spread the news you had better make sure those mouths leave happy. Our menu is full of Texas favorites like chicken fried steak, smothered pork chops, ribs and chicken along with short order items like hamburgers, salads and fried pork chop sandwiches. We now have 14 dedicated employees and hundreds of loyal customers who have made Rockin A Cafe a success. We are thankful and grateful for every customer who has ever walked through our doors. Whether you are looking for a place to fill your belly at lunch, a restaurant to deliver to your home, a banquet room for a reception or a catered meal Rockin A Cafe appreciates the opportunity to serve you. We continue to do everything we can to make our customers happy. Please come try a slice of Texas spice!!!
