As a father of teenagers and an attorney, my home life and my professional life don’t always overlap—and thankfully, most of the time that’s a good thing! But every once in a while, something comes along that bridges the gap in the best way possible.
As our kids grow into teenagers and young adults, they gain newfound independence. But with that freedom comes real-world legal responsibility. Helping our children understand these laws is one of the best ways we can set them up to become responsible, educated adults.
That’s why I want to tip my hat and express my deepest gratitude and respect to the Arkansas Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. They came up with an absolute home run of an idea and created a fantastic resource called "18 & Life to Go."
Huge thanks to these dedicated young attorneys for serving our state’s young adults so well! Putting together a comprehensive, approachable guide like this takes tremendous effort, and it’s such a thoughtful way to empower the next generation as they step into adulthood.
The guide covers everyday legal topics young people will soon face, including:
👨👩👧 Family & Relationships (Family Law is our specialty here at Ingle Law!): Understanding marriage, child support, custody, and domestic relations basics
🚗 Your Car: Buying, repairing, insuring, and driving safely
🏠 Renting: Understanding your first lease agreement
💼 Workplace: Job interviews, paychecks, taxes, and worker rights
💳 Money & Consumer Rights: Managing credit cards, avoiding scams, and protecting your money
📜 Everyday Laws: Medical rights, privacy, contracts, and understanding how the legal system works
Whether you have a high schooler preparing for graduation, a college student, or a young adult starting their first job, this is a wonderful guide to pass along or go over together.
Thank you again to the Young Lawyers Division for your leadership and service to our youth and our community! 👏
