A museum dedicated to the history of FUNERALS?! ⚰️👀

Tucked behind Jackson's Newport Funeral Home is the Bob Jackson Memorial Museum of Funeral Services, one of the few museums of its kind in the country.

And trust us, this isn't your typical museum visit!

The collection features hundreds of fascinating artifacts dating back to the 1800s, offering a look at how funeral traditions, rituals, and practices have evolved over nearly two centuries.

Some of the most interesting pieces include:
🐎 An original 1800s horse-drawn funeral hearse
⚰️ An incredibly rare 800-pound solid bronze casket from 1927
🧴 Antique embalming tools, glass bottles, and mortuary makeup
🖤 Ornate copper caskets and historic funeral equipment 🚃 Horse-drawn buggies once used to transport families and ministers to graveside services

The museum began as the personal collection of funeral director E. Bob Jackson, whose dream was to preserve the history of an industry most people know very little about.

Today, his family continues that legacy through this truly one-of-a-kind collection.

And with Halloween just around the corner, we can't think of a more unusual place to explore! 🎃

Something spooky has checked into downtown Batesville… and it’s here for the Halloween season.

The River Haunt Hotel is bringing a historic corner of Main Street back to life — with a terrifying twist! Located at 171 West Main Street on the former site of the historic Arlington and Marvin Hotel, this newly built attraction combines a historic-style exterior with multiple levels of haunted rooms waiting inside.
Admission is $15, with proceeds benefiting the Batesville Downtown Foundation and its work supporting downtown merchants and local improvement projects.
Not quite ready for the full scare? A special low-fright, “lights-on” tour will be held Thursday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m.

Come explore downtown Batesville and see if you’re brave enough to check into the River Haunt Hotel. The real question is… will you make it back out?
