𝗔 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗔𝗧 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟵

The last year of the 20th century happened before the birth of some readers of this page; for others it seems like yesterday.

It was also the year that Barre celebrated its 225th anniversary as a town.

This advertisement for the Barre Business Expo ’99 appeared in the “Worcester Telegram” on June 14, 1999. It promised some great happenings in the coming weeks.

The Barre Business Expo ’99, held on June 19, 1999, featured a great family event On the Common filled with raffles, entertainment, a food tent and a petting zoo.

Advertisements for other events and places included:

The Harding Allen Mansion craft and gift shop;

Stevens Farm Bed and Breakfast;

Coldbrook Restaurant & Banquet Facility, which included an Executive Par Three Golf Course, Olympic size swimming pool, entertainment, lounge and restaurant, and a grand Lobster Bake and FIREWORKS to celebrate Barre’s 225th birthday on July 17;

Hamel-LeSage Studio;

Barre Players presentation of the original play “Quork’s Passage,” which honored the efforts of Barre’s former slave in freeing all Massachusetts slaves in 1783; and

The Barre Garden Club’s Garden Tour scheduled for June 27.
