MAGIC PEDAL COMPANY COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
Cominsky Family Foundation
Investing in Barberton's Next Generation
Recently, the Magic Pedal Company introduced Barberton native and former NFL player John
Cominsky through our new What Makes Barberton Magic? series.
John shared a simple but powerful thought about the community that helped shape him:
“We are a resilient family.”
As we got to know John a little better, we quickly learned there was much more to this young
family's story—and another Barberton story worth sharing.
For John and Brittany Cominsky, Barberton will always be home. And through the Cominsky
Family Foundation, they're putting that hometown pride into action by investing in the next
generation.
John's journey took him from Barberton High School to college football and ultimately to six
seasons in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions. But long before professional
football, Barberton was helping shape the person he would become. John has spoken publicly
about the teachers, coaches and other adults in Barberton who influenced his life—and about his
desire to give young people opportunities of their own.
Today, John and Brittany operate the Cominsky Family Foundation, a nonprofit focused on
supporting local youth and helping create opportunities for a stronger future.
And they're putting that mission into action.
Through the foundation, John's youth football camp provides kids an opportunity to participate free
of charge. The 2025 camp drew about 130 young athletes, and John has described the camp as
part of his continuing commitment to Barberton's youth and the city.
But their work reaches beyond the football field.
The foundation's Backpack Blessings program helps children who don't have dependable access
to food outside of school by providing nonperishable food in reusable backpacks. The foundation
also works with community partners and invites individuals and businesses to help support
programs benefiting local youth.
That's what makes this story special to us.
Success can open doors for an individual. But sometimes it also creates an opportunity to hold the
door open for the people coming behind you.
That's exactly the kind of community spirit we want the Magic Pedal Company Community
Spotlight to celebrate.
So here's our ask:
Help us help them.
Like and share this story so more people learn about the Cominsky Family Foundation. Follow the
foundation and the good work they're doing. And if you or your business are in a position to do more,
consider supporting their mission through a donation, sponsorship, partnership or other
contribution. The foundation specifically welcomes community support for programs serving local
youth.
Because supporting the next generation isn't something one family—or one foundation—can do
alone.
It takes a community.
And as John reminded us when this story began:
“We are a resilient family.”
