The final chapter of my South American excursion landed in Cartagena, Colombia (w/an “O”, not a U), an amazing Latin American walled-in city, where I was happily joined by Courtney Malvik. We island hopped, went to literally one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to (Celele), and went to the Anthony Bordain-approved (though for us, less so) Bazurto Market. It was a great end to an exploratory visit to our neighbors in the far, far south 😊

Nearing the end of my S. America trip… Cusco and the amazing Machu Picchu. The only injustice is that there is no way these pictures can capture the grandness of the Andes and this city wonder.

The Patagonia hiking and biking trip, near Bariloche, is now in the record books. Patagonia is untamed, remote, and majestic, amongst so many other things. Next stop: Machu Picchu!

My cruise to the southern most tip of South America was both spectacular as well as rocky. The glaciers, fjords and nature’s stillness was beyond compare. The winds were too rough to land on Cape Horn and Penguin (Magdalena) Island, but neither was a surprise for “the most dangerous waters in the world”. Seriously a breathtaking experience that I strongly recommend! 😊❄️

Back on the Road Again: The beginning of my February South America Trip has me in Buenos Aires for several days, and BY FAR its highlight has been a Boca Juniors football match, best represented by this video clip.

I’ve never seen more passion and joy in a sporting match. Ever. Besides the fact that no rival fans were allowed in, EVERY SINGLE FAN sang in revelry throughout the match.

Day 112: after 16 weeks, 10 countries (incl full months in Paris and Italy), 24 different beds, hiking 2 mountain regions, biking in 5 countries, and countless stories, I’m back in the US (such as it is)! LOVED this trip, but it’s nice to be home 😊

Day 111: Scotland Highlands hiking, which was epic, incredibly challenging and had abundance of beauty, great food and a special camaraderie. Tomorrow I look forward to finally coming home after almost 4 months away, despite it being to a land that has fallen from the grace we once had.

Day 102 in Europe: London initially seemed (figuratively) cold to me, but I soon warmed to it. I felt safer (except when crossing the street) than I do in NYC. The people seem gentler. The Churchill War Rooms were esp fascinating. The food was mediocre. The mass transit system impressive. I also connected with Dolomite (Simon et al) and Danube friends (Chris & Ann) and had my sister come out to celebrate my birthday. Now in Scotland, my 10th and last country, for a final week’s hike.

Day 90:
This past week I hiked the Dolomites, which was incredibly challenging, but with a travel group that was incredibly fun. The beauty of these mountains are unparalleled. Arriving in London last night, I felt out of sorts to hear the English language as the native tongue; something I last experienced THREE MONTHS ago!
