When Chef Nora, who is a q***r woman and our beloved in-house baker, amazed us once again with this ridiculously delicious and oh-so poignant a pastry in celebration of Baltimores Pride Celebration, it took our breath away. 🩷
This house made sweet roll dough with lemon zest is filled with orange/rose pastry cream and topped with activated charcoal sugar, and a white chocolate perfect pink triangle.
This will ONLY BE AVAILABLE TODAY for the big 🏳️🌈PRE-GAYME🏳️⚧️PRIDE PARTY outside of our cafe! SO get one while you can!
(We will have Extended Hours today, too)
The decor of this pastry is based on keith harings “silence=death” art campaign during the AIDS crisis to raise awareness for the LGBT community in the 80s. The origin of the pink triangle he used was in his art to reclaim and a retaliation to the N***s who assigned this symbol to anyone suspected of being gay.
To learn more about who Keith was and why his art was so incredibly important please read further:
Keith Haring (1958–1990) was an iconic American artist and activist who emerged from the 1980s New York street art scene. Known for his vibrant, graphic style, he popularized graffiti art by drawing thousands of chalk figures in subway stations, making art accessible to everyone rather than just the fine-art elite.
As an openly gay man, Haring was an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ community and AIDS awareness. He established the Keith Haring Foundation before he died of AIDS-related complications in 1990 at the age of 31. His joyful, instantly recognizable style continues to be celebrated worldwide.
