MY CHILD WILL NEVER BE TOO YOUNG TO HEAR ME SAY, “I WAS WRONG.” ✍️

Most of us grew up hearing, “I’m the adult.” Sometimes that ended the conversation even when the adult was clearly wrong. An apology could feel almost impossible because admitting fault was treated like giving up authority..

I want my children to respect me, listen to me and understand that I’m still their parent. But if I lose my patience, accuse them unfairly or handle something the wrong way, I’ll own it. Being the parent doesn’t make me exempt from saying, “I was wrong. I’m sorry.”

Call it soft parenting or giving children too much power. I’d rather let my child see me take responsibility than teach them that becoming an adult means you never have to answer for the way you treat people.

Authority doesn’t require pretending you’re never wrong. Accountability deserves to be modeled at home.
