Weekend and Wine Specials.

Greetings!

Pretty chilly out there, non? I guess it is to be expected, being October and all, and we should be thankful that we have avoided the white stuff so far. But cooler weather seems to scream for warm, tasty food, comfort food even, and for some of us perhaps a nice glass, or bottle, of wine (guess whose camp I fall in). This is where I suggest that we at Fratello's can help you, this very weekend, for instance. We will be featuring Filet Mignon and Arctic Char, the Salmon type fish that is all so good for you. I hope that you consider joining us, we'll be here awaiting you.

We can help you with the wine part of your meal as well. The Smooth Operator Cabernet Franc blend from Washington via Treasure Hunter is still on our wine board, as is the Oregon Pinot Noir from Patricia Green Cellars, called Dollar Bills Only. Both are in short supply. however, so I have added two wines from Italy for you to enjoy. The Montepulciano D'Abruzzo from Contessa returns to the board, largely because it hits all the bases on both a value and quality standard, and it serves as an intro both into this grape, Montepulciano, but also wines from Contessa. The Montepulciano Riserva is on our wine list, which essentially adds more body and structure to the wine, but this wine on the board is not a light weight. It offers fruit, medium to fuller body, plus a decent finish, which is often lacking in lesser expensive wines. The other wine from Italy is also a red wine, but a blend from the Veneto region to the northeast. The Ornato Rosso is a blend of Merlot, Corvina and Negroamaro, a grape more associated with the Puglia region to the south, but this wine comes from Verona. It offers excellent color, solid structure, soft tannins and enough acidity to work well with a meal. This wine comes from the portfolio of Rocky River native and now wine importer Fran Kysela, who is well respected for his tastes in wine. Just a thought. Remember that we have many wines from many parts of the world on our list, red, white and rose, and I am sure that we have a wine that you will enjoy.

This is the time of year when one has to bundle up more, and I hope that you have been warm and well. Thank you for your continued support for our experiment we call Fratello's. Continue to take care of yourselves and each other, always smile & laugh as much as you can, and take care. We hope to see you soon, maybe even this weekend. Take care.

Beef Brociole and Mahi-mahi

Greetings!

Well, this is more like it! We can finally open the windows and let some fresh air in, give the AC a break, and our chefs finally get some relief in the kitchen (i.e. it has bloody hot in our kitchen this summer!). And while it is kind of foreboding of what is coming, it is also a bit of relief, and actually a bit easier all the way around. Easier to be outside, and easier to get ready and head out to enjoy some fine food & wine. Like, for instance, what we will feature this very weekend, when our specials will be Beef Brociole and Mahi-mahi, which should be good-good. Mother Nature should not stop you from joining us this weekend, so consider moseying over and joining us, we'll be here awaiting you.

Our feature wine board has a few changes as the Rioja from Spain is gone and the red blend from Portugal, Sino Da Romaneira, which is made with grapes that are indigenous to Portugal, is nearly gone. I have added a red blend from California called The Sum, which is a medium bodied wine with good fruit and structure. I have also made sure our supply of the Montepulciano D'Abruzzo is okay, as this is one of the many lesser known wines from Italy that deserve more exposure. This particular wine from Contessa is medium to fuller bodied, with decent fruit and structure, and serves to give one a sense of what Montepulciano, which is the grape the wine is made from, is all about, and also what its bigger brother Riserva Montepulciano, which is on our wine list, offers, although the Riserva is larger and bigger in all aspects. The limited wines from the Priorat region of Spain are also still with us, one is a white wine and the other is red, and as they are made by Treasure Hunter they offer both quality and value. Lastly, the 2016 Grand Heritage from Chateau des Landes, a 100% Merlot from the Saint-Emilion region of Bordeaux, France, is also here, and I have found wines from this part of Bordeaux to be more friendly than wines from other parts of the region, meaning they typically offer more fruit and less tannins, a bit more smooth. All good wines to enlarge your wine tent.

I hope your summer has gone well, especially in the health department, and that you have found reasons and time to laugh & smile these past few months. Lord knows we need it. Thank you again for your continued support for this experiment we call Fratello's for these past many months and years, it is very much appreciated. Take care of your selves and each other, continue to smile & laugh, and be well. Take care.

Certified Angus Beef Delmonico Steak and Halibut Cheeks

Greetings!

Greetings, my apologies for my lateness here (or my earliness today, either way), but as you know, sometimes things just happen to go awry. Like, for instance, how bloody hot it has been recently, it has been a challenge for our folks in the back of the house - that is, the non-AC part of the house. But what should not go awry - at least we hope - is what we try to do for you each and every week at Fratello's. Like tonight, when we will be featuring Certified Angus Beef Delmonico Steak and Halibut Cheeks, plus some things like Veal & Shrimp & Calamari & Chicken & Clams & Mussels & Pasta & Eggplant &.......Consider joining us, at least the front of the house should be cool, and we'll be here for you & looking forward to seeing you.

On our feature board we still have the Rioja from Cerro Anon and the red blend from Portugal, Sino Da Romaneira, which is made with grapes that are indigenous to Portugal, as well as the Chianti Superiore from Villa Monti, although supply is running low on all these wines. The Montepulciano D'Abruzzo is also still with us and supply is good, and this is a wine that you should try. A wine awaiting its turn in the wings is a red blend from California made by Tuck Beckstoffer, a very well respected winemaker, called The Sum Red Blend, which makes up in taste what in name it may be lacking. A few wines are also new but in very small supply and availability, so they may not make it to the wine list. The 2016 Grand Heritage from Chateau des Landes is a 100% Merlot from the Saint-Emilion region of Bordeaux, France, and is both highly rated and gives one a good impression of a Right Bank Bordeaux wine. Treasure Hunter has released two wines that in my experience is the first time that they have gone international in their concept, which is to take and relabel excess wines at very reduced prices. Both wines come from the Priorat region of northeast Spain, one of the major wine regions of the country whose wines typically are on the more expensive side. One wine is red, made from Garnacha, Carignane and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the other is a white Priorat, which is a new taste for me, made from White Grenache and Viognier, a grape more associated with France than with Spain. Both are rated 91+ by a respected Spanish wine guide, so consider these when you join us. Lastly, we sold the last Grenache wine from Revelry from Washington state recently, hopefully to my friend's good fortune, but I replaced it with another wine from Revelry called Range, which is a blend of Grenache and Syrah, both of which Revelry excels at. Most of us, myself included, start with Merlot when drinking wines from Washington, which they continue to do very well with, but they also make great Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet, which you should also try. Revelry is a winery that I have great respect for as well, and we have their Syrah on our list as well. All good choices for you.

It has been bloody hot recently, and it looks like this weekend will be no exception, although they say cooler days are ahead. I hope you have been cool & hydrated these past few weeks, and that you have been well. Continue to stay healthy and take care of yourselves and each other, smile & laugh when you can (Lord knows we need it!), and be well. We hope to see you soon. Take care.

Certified Angus Beef Top Sirloin Steaks and Black Grouper

Greetings!

Well, I guess one can say that we're in the dog days of August now. I never really understood where this phrase came from - although I have heard many tales - but sometimes recently I have felt like panting like a dog to cool off (full disclosure, it doesn't help). All I can add is hooray for AC! And I might add hooray for good food & wine, which is always good any time of year. Like, for instance, this time of year, this very weekend, when we at Fratello's will be featuring Certified Angus Beef Top Sirloin Steaks and Black Grouper. As for AC, so far it continues to work so it should be comfortable for you, plus I am confident we can help you on the food & wine part, so consider joining us. We'll be here for ya'!

Our feature board continues to feature the Rioja from Cerro Anon and the red blend from Portugal, Sino Da Romaneira, which is made with grapes that are indigenous to Portugal and which has been very well received. I have mentioned before how wines from Spain and Portugal should be on your wine radar, as they offer both quality and value, perhaps the best value in wines from Europe. These two wines will give you an idea of what they are all about, and can serve as a springboard to try other wines from this region, which we also happen to have on our wine list. The same notion applies to another wine on our board, this time from Italy. The Montepulciano D'Abruzzo from Contessa is a medium bodied red from the Abruzzo region along the Adriatic Sea which is an old world wine but still offers fruit for you to enjoy. On our list is its big brother - or maybe father - also from Contessa, a Montepulciano D'Abruzzo Riserva, which means essentially that it has been aged longer. What this also means is that it is a much more powerful wine, much more body & flavor. A terrific wine. Lastly, the board also has a Chianti Superiore from Villa Monti. Superiore connotes a certain amount of aging, and this is a lighter style of Chianti, yet it gives you an idea of what a decent Chianti can taste like. It also can lead to other Chianti wines that are on our list, which will offer you yet more body, flavor and even elegance. There are many styles of Chianti and we have a number that you can choose from. Just a thought.

I hope you have been well and enjoyed your summer thus far. Thank you for all your support all these years. Take care of you and yours, continue to smile & laugh when you can, and be well. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Certified Angus Beef Strip Steak and Chilean Sea Bass

Greetings!

Hot enough for ya'? This has been some summer this year, on many levels, but for our purposes let's leave it to the temps, rain and especially heat this year. This has been as wet a summer as I remember, and I have been around for a quite a few summers, and as for the heat it boggles the mind to come up with adequate adjectives to describe it. Many words come to mind, but as this is family friendly email - or at least I hope it is - let's leave it at friggin' tropical. But there is a bright side to all this, summers like this make it that more enjoyable to head to a nice place for some fine food & wine, where you don't have to labor and heat up your kitchen & home but rather let someone else do all that for you. And if the food & wine are decent it is all the better. All of which, incidentally, is what we try to do for you at Fratello's. Like this very weekend, when we will be featuring Certified Angus Beef Strip Steak and Chilean Sea Bass, which is very tasty despite not being a real bass and probably not really from Chile. These are minor points, though, the major point is that we will be here for you this weekend to give your kitchen, and your chefs, a break. Consider joining us, I paid the electric bill so the AC should be on, same for the ovens, plus the corkscrews will be primed. As you know by now, rain or shine, tropical or not, we'd love to see ya'!

I have made some changes to our wine board. Our features this week include the Cabernet from Joel Gott and the Sangiovese blend from Ferrari-Carano, Siena, which continue to be standards for us, as well as the Crianza Rioja from Cerro Anon from Spain - which was part of my lunch today - and the red blend from Treasure Hunter, Centurion, which has been very well received. The Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend from France, called Project Blackbird for some reason, is nearly gone, but I have added a red wine from Portugal, Sino Da Romaneira. This wine is made from grapes indigenous to Portugal, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, and gives you an idea of what wines from Portugal are all about. Portugal is known for wines other than Port, which is also wonderful and we have some of these also for you to enjoy, and they deserve your attention. I think many of us, me included, often do not stray too far away from our comfort zone, on many levels but let's keep it to wines, and I urge you to try wines from Portugal, with us or elsewhere. In addition to this wine we have several others on our list, and they are all worthy. Medium bodied, good fruit and structure, all good. The other wine I tasted recently was the red Burgundy - think Pinot Noir - that I mentioned last week and tasted with another lunch this week. The Milan Maranges is an inexpensive wine yet will give you a taste of what a Burgundy is all about. Pinot Noir is grown throughout the world, but its ancestral home is France, and some of the world's finest wines - and most expensive - come from here. This wine, however, is not expensive, it has excellent flavor and fruit, yet nothing like a Pinot from California or Oregon. There are reasons why Burgundy wines are so admired, and this wine will lead you in that direction.

I hope you fared well with this most recent storm and wind blast, and if you lost power as I did it was not too bad for you. Thank you for your continued support, we all appreciate it. Take care of yourselves and each other, continue to laugh & smile as much as you can, and take care. We hope to see you soon.

Prestige Pork Chops and Swordfish!

Greetings!

It's been a good week thus far, at least as far as the weather goes. it is right in that Godilocks zone, not too hot, not too cold, almost perfect sleeping weather. You know what this zone is also about, non? Why it is to head out for some fine food & wine! (Surprise, I know.) Which is also, by the way, something which we at Fratello's can help you with. This weekend we will be featuring Prestige Pork Chops and Swordfish, along with some Veal & Shrimp & Chicken & Pasta & Eggplant & Clams & Mussels &......you get the idea. Consider joining us, we'd love to see ya'!

A few changes are afoot in our wine program. On our wine board we still have the Rioja from Spain, the Grenache blend, High On The Hog, from Paso Robles, and the red blend from Treasure Hunter, all of which join our old friends, the Cabernet from Joel Gott and the Sangiovese blend from Ferrari-Carano, Siena. I have added a wine from the south of France, called Project Blackbird, which is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Cabernet Franc is a grape grown in many regions of France and often shows tastes of green pepper, but this wine mutes this taste, which for me is a plus. It is medium to fuller bodied, with a spicy pepper on the finish, which is full for a wine of this price. On our wine list itself I have also added several new wines from France. In my view our list was lacking in wines from the Burgundy and Loire regions of France, and these new wines address this thought. The Clos Medecin, Anjou Villages, from Domaine de Brize, is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, and like the Project Blackbird mutes the green pepper taste but is a fine example of Cabernet Franc from the Loire, which is among the signature grapes of this region. From Burgundy I have added two wines, both are Pinot Noir, which is its signature grape, the Milan Maranges Rouge and a Mercurey 1er Cru. Both are worthy, the former being a lighter touch, the latter being a bit more focused and hearty. All good wines for you to consider when you visit.

I hope you have responded to our good weather fortune as I have, and that you are well and enjoying your summer. Thank you for your continued support for us, it is truly appreciated. Please take care of yourselves and each other, continue to smile & laugh when you can, and be well. We hope to see you soon. Take care.
