These pimento cheese peppers bring back all the memories!!

Memories of white bread sandwiches pulled out of crinkled paper lunch bags. In my central Jersey hometown, the go-to lunchbox sandwich was white bread with PB&J. Connor's North Carolina equivalent was white bread with a big ol' slab of pimento cheese.

Memories of falling in love with Connor. The first time I had pimento cheese, in my young twenties, sitting on the porch of a farmhouse in the Carolina piedmont. Barefoot and paper plates.

Memories of our start-up days as a casual pop-up at Isabel's. On one of our very first menus, we offered baby bell peppers stuffed with pimento cheese as an appetizer. It was the right balance of familiar and new. It was in Connor's comfort zone, while still presenting a unique flavor to our Jersey guests. And it was just damn good!

When we moved to our brick and mortar at the Boardwalk, we took pimento cheese off the menu. It felt too casual or pedestrian for our debut as a "real" restaurant and a "real" Chef. We had to impress!

Now, in our third year, we are a little more comfortable sharing the simple things, and a little more confident being ourselves. We've learned that - whether you're barefoot on a porch, or high-heeled at white-linen table - damn good is still... damn good!!

Savoring these last few weeks of summer nights and sunset skies. Just three more weeks of dinner before we close for the 2023 season!

We‘ve started to bid farewell to some of our summer team, and our regular guests are starting to say “see you next summer!” Instead of “see you next week!”

It’s such a bittersweet time of year. The goodbyes are the worst! But they are also a reflection of genuine relationships and connections - which are the absolute best.

BUT we won’t get too sappy just yet!! Our last day of the season is Labor Day Monday, Sept 4! Please pop in to say hi/bye!

Y'ALL! It's peak peach season in Jersey right now. And peak corn season. AND peak basil season! Could it get any better than that?

Yes. One word... Burrata.

After three years as a pop-up, it still hasn't fully set in that we are now a REAL brick & mortar restaurant. Gone are the days of dressing up portable card tables, hoping no one leans too hard on them. Of carefully stacking chairs and champagne glasses in the back of Rhianne's sprinter van. Of nervously reloading the weather app on stormy nights, deciding if we should take a chance on the rain or gently notify our entire guest list we have to cancel. Ahhhhh!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We haven't totally lost our desire to dine outside the lines. For an embrace-the-elements, weather-permitting, rain-and-run experience, join us on the Terrace (first photo!). If you want to enjoy the outdoors and ocean view with a bit more cover and certainty, join us for a guaranteed reservation on the Patio (second photo). And new this summer: our cush, coastal-inspired Interior Dining Room (third photo) - we even have AIR CONDITIONING!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A special shout out to our interior designer, for all her vision, hard work, creativity and commitment. & thank you to .and.company and for snapping these photos!

Can you believe it’s been a whole year since we last posted?!!

We are still learning how to do all the things - and find balance - amongst a busy restaurant, a 24-acre farm, and…a healthy baby boy! Colby was born on September 21st and is the sweetest reminder of why we’ve chosen this path.

Connor and I started a business together because we wanted a family-friendly life. Sounds crazy.. I know. A restaurant seems like possibly the WORST choice for stability and quality family time. The hours are late and it’s nearly impossible to baby-proof wine glasses, chef knives, and hot stoves. There are no health benefits, no guaranteed salary or wage, and no “clocking out.”

But, restaurants are also one big family. The work is so hard and intense that the cooks, servers, dishwashers and hosts become more like cousins, aunties and brothers than staff. Like Grandma’s kitchen.. there’s always food to eat and always someone to hold the baby. We can bring Colby with us each day (or try to!).. set up a playpen next to the walk-in cooler, tuck a changing station under the host stand. In that sense, Summer Salt feels way more like our home than our business.

We’ve been busy renovating the restaurant this winter and can’t wait to share our "home away from home” with you! We open for the season on June 2nd and begin taking reservations via OpenTable on Memorial Day Monday, 5/30 at 5:30pm. We've missed y'all!! So excited to see you soon.
