FULL MOON MULLET! We’re CLOSED this week today, tomorrow (Wednesday), and Thursday. Maybe Friday, too, if the wind keeps blowing. Expect a big migration of mullet (below) and peanut bunker (immature menhaden) from the bay, out local inlets, and into the ocean this week but PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROCKS! We’ll see you this weekend.

CAPTAIN’S PREROGATIVE! Captain Brandon took the MISS AVALON far to the east on Friday to fish some Hurd Family secret spots. His crew caught a BOAT LIMIT of delicious BLACK SEA BASS and 25 keeper SUMMER FLOUNDER (Fluke). Additionally, Captain Brandon caught his 3 FISH LIMIT of SUMMER FLOUNDER (Fluke) on Mackerel and Pink Shine Gulp! Grubs. The Skipper hast lost his touch being in the wheelhouse!

THAT’S A HANDFUL! Our Fishing Director CJ Walsh fished the Wildwood Artificial Reef last week for his 3 fish LIMIT of SUMMER FLOUNDER (Fluke). CJ fishes a 1.5 oz bucktail with a 6” Pink Shine Gulp! grub, jiggling the light spinning rod like you would the handle of a toilet. He reports that these flounder were DELICIOUS when served with local corn and zucchini! Come see Jim, Ethan, and CJ this weekend for a store full of end-of-season sales, including Penn Battle and Fierce spinning reels!

CAPTAIN JIM WITH A MATCHED PAIR! Jim Roszkowski caught these keeper SUMMER FLOUNDER (Fluke) on the Townsends Inlet Reef rubble on Thursday, along with at least 6 more shorts and plenty of small black sea bass. With NJ’s summer flounder season nearly over, we’re going to miss delicious fresh fish like these! We’ll have Moran’s Live Minnows, ProCut Squid Strips, Canadian Spearing, Salted Mackerel Filets, and all the Gulp! you need through next weekend. Sfter that, we’ll pivot to blackfish (tautog), black sea bass, and hopefully some striped bass, bluefish, and weakfish!

TODD HAD A DAY! Todd caught a bunch of SUMMER FLOUNDER (Fluke) in Hereford Inlet on Tuesday, outfishing his buddy CJ 20 to 5 while jigging Gulp! on the top of the tide. The local inlets are LOADED with bait, including bay anchovies, peanut bunker, and more and more mullet every day. The flounder are in the inlet under these bait schools. You can fish Corson, Townsends, and Hereford Inlets in the wind this weekend and still catch fish!

2026’s BIGGEST FLOUNDER! Local expert Ken McDermott caught this 8 LB SUMMER FLOUNDER (Fluke) last week on a local wreck. Ken has caught a number of excellent fish in our area and this one is extra special. Today and tomorrow could be your last chance for a deepwater flounder, so cancel that call and grab some Gulp! We have white, chartreuse, nuclear chicken, and salmon red Gulp! grubs on sale for $7 this weekend!

THE HERD IS HERE! Nico showed us this 8 LB SHEEPSHEAD yesterday afternoon that he caught on an inlet rockpile. He uses a piece of crab for bait. We have FROZEN SAND FLEAS if you haven’t dug your own yet. Avalon’s beach replenishment will not help the local sand flea population so we have a freezer full for you. Think about 1/0 to 3/0 Octopus hooks. We have great A-Salt Blackfish high-loa rigs (yellow package) that are perfect for SHEEPSHEAD and TRIGGERFISH around inlet rocks with a small bank sinker. Ask CJ or Ethan for help!

FLOUNDER IN THE SURF! Joe has quietly racked up dozens of SUMMER FLOUNDER (Fluke) in the surf this summer fishing small Gulp mullets in the wash. We like the beaches from 39th Street south through Stone Harbor for these summertime beach flounder. The water will be clearer away from the dredging project. We also really like the beach side (Sea Isle side) of Townsends Inlet on the outgoing tide, especially with Moran’s Live Minnows.
Stop in and ask Ethan, Bill, or CJ for tips on rigging a small octopus hook ahead of a jighead. We can show you how!
