And here at Whip My Soul, we have to give a special shoutout to Mama Tia, the heart behind so much of what we do. From Chicago to Austin, she’s built a legacy rooted in family, food, and love that now stretches across four generations inside one restaurant.

After the votes were counted… Mama Tia was victorious. 🏆

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson and City Council District 6 will proclaim February 5th, 2026 as Whip My Soul Day! Their food, customer service and vibe is worth the recognition. The Black-owned and operated restaurant was also recently named to Yelp’s Top 100 Places To Eat in 2026! Congratulations to the husband-and-wife team Antonio & Tanika (Tia) Echols and their amazing staff! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

🚨 On February 5, the City of Austin will officially proclaim Whip My Soul Day. This honor reflects the love, support, and belief our community has poured into us over the last four years. Community got us here. 💙

Thank you to and District 6 for reaching out and choosing to recognize our family and our work. We’re truly grateful.

So we invite our community to join us as we mark this moment together. Come celebrate with us at City Hall with goodies, gratitude, and a group photo outside.
