What is Short Bowel Syndrome? I know I never heard of it before Danielle was told she had it so here's some information on the condition.

Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) is a rare and potentially fatal gastrointestinal disorder in which patients are unable to absorb enough nutrients and fluids through the intestine from the food they eat. SBS generally occurs when a large portion of the intestine has been removed by surgery as a result of disease or injury. In rare cases, it is congenital.

Some patients with SBS receive an ostomy, which is a surgical opening created through the skin in the belly (abdomen) for the elimination of body wastes. Common symptoms of Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) can include diarrhea, dehydration, malnutrition, and weight loss, which are closely related to the functional issues of the bowel
