It is with great sadness that we close The Canteen.

We first want to thank all of the wonderful staff members who made it possible, from preparing for the opening, to the day-to-day operation, to closing the doors. It has been a pleasure and privilege to work with all of you. We look forward to continuing to work with many of you in our other restaurants.

We also want to thank all the loyal customers over the last several years. Our goal from the start was to prove that food could be both fast and high-quality. We appreciate all of the patrons who embraced and supported that vision.

The Canteen has been a challenge. We always enjoyed tremendous weekday support. Being in a business-heavy area, nights and weekends never developed the traffic that we hoped they would. We were affected by seasonality to a much greater extent than any of our other university-adjacent restaurants. The Canteen ultimately operated on a very thin margin, relying on busier spring business to carry it through the slower summer months until traffic resumed in the fall.

When and surrounding businesses closed down in March, business disappeared. With the pandemic taking out our spring business, surviving the summer would be difficult under the best of circumstances. We decided to close temporarily in mid-March, hoping to cut all expenses to the bone in the hope that we could come out of this intact. Closing only cuts the variable expenses like payroll and inventory. It is the fixed costs, like rent and utilities, that remained. We recognize that our landlord was under no obligation to help – we had signed a lease – but the unwillingness to consider any rent relief during the past two months changed the path forward from uncertain to impossible.

The good news is that everyone can continue to enjoy and at , and TGM Soup Co. and all the old TGM Bagel favorites at and at . Those locations currently are open for takeout and delivery.

In this constantly changing whirlwind we’re all trying to function in these days, we’ve decided we need to close Tues 3/17 and Wed 3/18 so that we can prepare to reopen on Thursday with a TO GO only service model in place.
In the meantime, [some of] our sister remain here for you: will be open, to go only (and ); TGM Soup Co. open at (loaves of bread available too!); + are open at , pickup and only. Thank you for your support!

We know we don’t have to tell you the bad news. The good news, however, is that our restaurants — and lots of great restaurants across the city — already are fully trained and equipped to control the spread of pathogens. We already wash hands more than you can imagine. We sanitize food contact surfaces and tabletops constantly. Sanitation and safe-handling practices are what we do every day. With the current situation, we have implemented additional steps that include sanitizing high touch areas throughout the restaurant on a constant basis. We are making operational changes to reduce touch points throughout the restaurant. The safety of our staff and guests remains our highest priority.

We are here for you, whether you want to dine in or pick up food to go or order delivery via or (visit our website, linked in profile, for ordering links). Please help us by maintaining your own wellbeing and by not dining in with us if you are sick (send someone to pick up that food for you!). Your continued support of all the means support for dozens of staff members and their families. We all need you and want to take care of you. We know soup can’t cure all that ails, but it helps. (And it freezes well, so stock up at TGM Soup Co.!)

I just wanna say that I feel so so sooo grateful for eateries like Fred’s. They’re one of the few places I look forward to coming back to when I’m in Atlanta and for a really good reason: They do really simple, humble foods and execute them flawlessly.
AAAND for any of you that didn’t watch my stories a couple days ago, I went f*ckin HAM on a bunch of Fred’s food in a big fat Fred’s 😆🤚🏻 It was epic. My stomach both loved and hated me afterwards. 🤗
Fred’s mukbang will be live this coming Tuesday, so stay tuned to watch me eat a bunch of meat and bread, AND get ready bc I tell the whole story of Shane’s and my engagement! 💍✨

UPDATE: WEDNESDAY ONLY! 🍔 January is almost over so we can forget about our new year's diet resolutions now right?! has some of the most tasty burgers and if you swing by their location (near GA Tech campus) they're just $5 after 3 PM on Wednesdays! 👏🤤.
