The New Soul Veg , Atlanta’s oldest Black-owned vegan restaurant, served its last plates on July 12 after 47 years in the West End. Founded by members of the African Hebrew Israelite Nation of Jerusalem, the restaurant became a neighborhood staple and helped inspire the city’s Black-owned vegan food scene.
Chef Chef Pahroosha and Saint Mica’el reflect on nearly five decades of feeding the community, calling the closure a “conclusion,” not an end. Soul Vegetarian No. 2 remains open on North Highland Ave.
