After 47 years, The New Soul Veg , Atlanta’s oldest Black-owned vegan restaurant, has closed its doors in the West End.

Days before the July 12 closure, The Atlanta Voice visited the West End Ave. institution as longtime customers came to say goodbye over one last meal. Chef Pahroosha shared a photo album chronicling the restaurant’s history, from its 1979 founding to its role as a cornerstone of the neighborhood.

“We’ve been in the building 47 years, but until you actually see where we came from, you don’t understand,” Israel said.

After 47 years of service as the oldest black vegan restaurant in Atlanta, we are closing the doors to our historic West End location this Sunday, July 12. Join us on Sunday to enjoy one more meal during this special community event. Doors open at 10 am!

After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close the doors of Soul Veg.

This decision was driven in large part by the building's aging infrastructure, which has made it increasingly difficult to provide the high level of service our community deserves.

We are deeply grateful for the love and support our customers, friends, and supporters have shown us. Serving you has been an honor, and we thank everyone who has been part of this journey.

In the weeks ahead, we invite you to stop by, enjoy your favorite dishes, and spend time with us as we prepare for our final day.

Please join us for our Grand Closing Event on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
