Laura and Michael Compton met for the first time at West Egg, in 2012. Now married, they have a piece of West Egg hanging in their beautiful kitchen — our coffee menu board! When Laura told us their story and asked if we would part with the menu board when we closed, we were on board (no pun intended!) right away. We love seeing West Egg live on and knowing what it meant to guests through the years. (And we promise not to ask for the menu board back, Laura, if we find a new home for West Egg!) 😘

Another beautiful shot from — this time of Chef Andrew Smith’s award-winning Shrimp & Grits! The first time Chef Andrew competed for the prize for Georgia’s best Shrimp & Grits at the Shrimp & Grits Festival in 2016 — the year after he joined the West Egg team — he took home the trophy! but call us

A couple years ago took some gorgeous photos of our favorite menu items — and it’s time to share them again as we wind down our time here (last day: Sunday, December 29)! Is the Fried Egg Sandwich anybody else’s favorite? Two eggs fried hard (otherwise they run down your arm!), bacon, cheddar cheese, greens, red onion, mayo, tomato jam, on thick toasted challah. (Recommended pairing? One of our bloody marys!) 📷: but call us

Please see the link in our bio about West Egg’s closing. Come see us at through Sunday, December 29!

Why no comments allowed on this post, you ask? Because closing a restaurant is hard. Because closing a restaurant that has been open for more than 20 years is hard. Because closing your first restaurant, your first baby, is hard. Because closing a restaurant named after a place in your favorite book is hard. Because closing a restaurant named after your favorite book from which a passage was read in your wedding is hard. Because closing a restaurant where so many of the people who work there have been with you for nearly a decade — or more — and you wish you had great jobs for all of them at your other restaurants, but you don’t, is hard.

And we’re just not prepared to have someone take this moment to tell us the place had gone downhill or last time they came their food was cold or their server wasn’t attentive enough or parking is a pain and they can see why we closed. This is hard enough already.

*Please note that we are not denying the validity of any of those feelings or experiences. The decision of where one chooses to spend their hard-earned money and precious free time is not one we take lightly. We are honored by every guest who chooses to spend theirs with us. We’re just feeling very human right now.
