Our San Fran Coffee World Cup Bracket Contest is officially open at all three locations: Virginia-Highland, Candler Park, and Midtown.
Pick up a bracket in-store, fill it out, choose your champion, and hand it to your barista by June 11.
One winner per location will take home the whole kit:
whole bean coffee, moka pot, milk frother, San Fran mug, and more.
A few quick notes before the chaos begins:
No changes after submission.
One entry per person across all stores.

Our Candler Park coffeehouse is featuring Atlanta collage artist Francesca, whose organic, emotion-led work explores women’s issues, personal experience, and the kind of feeling you can’t quite explain but absolutely recognize.

June Art at San Francisco Coffee

This June, all three San Fran Coffee locations are getting a fresh round of local art on the walls — because caffeine and creativity remain one of our more stable personality traits. Stop by Midtown, Candler Park, and Virginia-Highland this month to see work from local Atlanta artists, all available for purchase directly through the coffeehouses.

Come by, grab something iced, wander the walls, and maybe take home a piece that speaks to you, or at least politely stares back while you drink your coffee.

We love getting to share our spaces with local artists, and every purchase helps support the creative community that makes Atlanta feel like Atlanta.

Summer in Atlanta is officially pulling into the station (rainy days aside...), and naturally, we are responding the only way we know how: with new drinks, community events (https://www.sanfranciscocoffeeroastingco.com/pages/san-francisco-coffee-monthly-events) , and a mildly dramatic amount of calendar planning.

June is a big month for us! We’re welcoming local artists and makers into our coffeehouses, launching our 2026 Summer Drink Menu, and getting ready for the World Cup to take over Atlanta in the best possible way.

The wait is almost over. Our 2026 Summer Drink Menu launches Tuesday, June 9, and we’ve been testing, tweaking, sipping, judging, re-testing, and occasionally staring silently into cups like they owed us money.

This year’s summer lineup is built for Atlanta heat: bright, refreshing, iced-forward, and very much made for the person who says, “I want something fun, but I still need caffeine to function.”

Expect returning favorites, new seasonal drinks, plenty of cold brew energy, and a few options that feel like summer vacation without the airport delays. We’re talking layered flavors, sparkling moments, espresso doing what espresso does best, and drinks that are pretty enough for Instagram but still actually taste good.

Groundbreaking. Rare. Important.

The full menu drops June 9 at all locations.

Come thirsty. Come nosy. Come ready to pick a favorite and make it your entire personality until September.

World Cup Plans are Brewing

Atlanta is one of the host cities for the FIFA World Cup this summer, and yes, we are absolutely using this as an excuse to get festive, it would be irresponsible not to.

From June 15 through July 19, we’ll be rolling out World Cup activations across our coffeehouses, including match-day drink specials, a “Show Your Jersey” promo, bracket fun, cold brew options, and live match viewings at our Midtown Coffeehouse.

Our Midtown coffeehouse will be the main watch spot, with live games playing during key match days, including Atlanta-hosted matches and the final. Virginia-Highland and Candler Park will also be in on the action with specials, promos, and fuel-up options for anyone heading to watch parties, hosting friends, or simply pretending they understand the bracket.

More details are coming soon in a full World Cup email, but for now: start locating your jersey, scarf, lucky socks, emotionally complicated team allegiance, (and brace for this traffic, ATL)

We’re hosting The Kedi & Jake Workshop: Kindness Through Play with local Atlanta author Lisa Perlstein at our Virginia-Highland coffeehouse.

This free, family-friendly event is designed for toddlers and preschoolers ages 2–5, with an interactive story, play-based kindness activity, and take-home printables. Tiny humans learning real-life kindness skills? Honestly, we could all use the refresher.

Who is ready for the weekend?!

Who’s ready to roll into the weekend properly caffeinated? We’ve got Porchfest on Saturday, so come see us that morning for live music, coffee, and the kind of neighborhood chaos we personally support. We’re also highlighting a new artist at our newest coffeehouse on Peachtree in the heart of Midtown. And, because it is our birthright, we are legally obligated to talk about what we do best...coffee! This month we’re shining a light on our Bean of the Month: Guatemalan Antigua.

Coffee tasting notes can sound a little suspicious if no one has explained them properly.

Milk chocolate? Orange zest? Cracked black pepper? Dried cherry?
We get it. It can sound like someone went crazy with a thesaurus.

But tasting notes are not added flavors. We are not pouring in chocolate syrup, citrus peel, or peppercorns in the roaster. These are just the natural flavors and aromas we notice when a coffee is grown, processed, roasted, and brewed in a way that lets its character show up clearly.

Our current Guatemalan coffee is a great example: smooth and rounded, with notes of milk chocolate, dried cherry, orange zest, and a subtle cracked black pepper finish. It is approachable, but not boring. Balanced, but not flat. Basically, it has range. Why Orion is the Perfect Espresso Pt 2: How to Dial in Espresso at Home

Hey folks, Doug here!

Now if you’ve ever tried making espresso at home and thought: “Why does this taste nothing like the coffee shop?” You’re not alone. Espresso is simple on paper — but it’s precise in practice. The good news? Once you understand a few key variables, it all starts to click.

Let’s walk through it.

Distribution and Tamping (Let’s Talk About All Those Tools)

Controversial opinion: you don’t need a dozen tools to pull a good shot of espresso.

If you’ve spent any time online, you’ve probably seen:

Distribution tools
Needle tools
WDT tools
Levelers
Calibrated tampers
Puck screens
Precision baskets
And a dozen other gadgets

Some of those tools are useful. Some can improve consistency. But here’s the truth from someone who’s pulled thousands of shots: none of those tools matter if you don’t understand the fundamentals.

And the fundamentals are simple:

Evenly distribute the grounds
Tamp flat and consistent
Use the same process every time
That’s it.

Now nothing is wrong if you have and can afford some of these instruments, that's great! But I'm here to give you the lowdown on the necessities to get a good shot.

Why Distribution Matters

Espresso is about pressure. When water hits the puck, it’s looking for the easiest path through. If your grounds are uneven, water will channel, meaning it flows through weak spots instead of extracting evenly.

That’s when you get:

Sour shots
Bitter shots
Thin body
Inconsistent flavor

You don’t need a fancy tool to fix this. A few gentle taps. A quick level with your finger. That’s often enough.

There’s a lot of talk about perfect calibrated tampers and exact tamping force.

But what matters most? A flat tamp, even 30 lb of pressure, same approach every time

Consistency matters more than force. You can tamp lighter and still get a great shot, as long as you’re doing it the same way each time. What causes problems isn’t light tamping, it’s uneven tamping. If one side of the puck is denser than the other, water will find the weaker side. That’s where bad shots come from.

Remember, coffee doesn't have to be, and shouldn't be intimidating!
